Week 1 was a nice and relax session conducted by Prof Ben. It was great to meet up with my fellow TSM-ers and settle on some basic itinerary items. I guess the biggest highlight of the day is that we are visiting Japan too! *HURRAY*. Double the fun, double the excitement!

Also, I will be working with Janan! It is the very first time i worked with Janan and we will definitely work our ass off to secure the Japanese companies! We have decided to call ourselves, Team YOUTIAO! This is mainly because we are both skinny, like a you tiao.

Week 2 is a very interesting lesson! The seniors of the previous TSM came back and share on their experience and encounters. Jocelyn, Wahchun, Melissa and Yanxin shared on their internship experience and how TSM have impacted their lives. After listening to their sharing, I am very tempted to find an internship in some start-up in Japan or Korea. Unfortunately, I have my own start-up based in Singapore and we are growing very quickly! Got to stay put in Singapore and make things happen!

Also, I have came out with 2 logos for our TSM trip. Together with Rafael, we have 4 potential logos to pick from! Both Rafael and I have put in a great deal of efforts in designing a suitable logo for our first-ever TSM to Korea and Japan. This is our hard work and I am very proud of it ^^

Still no news from DesignCube, I have decided to move on to other companies! Despite emailing and dropping them a message on Facebook, I still failed to receive a response from DesignCube. Sad news aside, the wonderful Agruz have organised a lunch bonding for the fellow TSM-ers! We have a quick lunch at Crossroad Cafe near Waterloo Street, and it was a fun session. Thanks to Jeremy, we have secured United as the company we will be hosting. United is a very successful company that started in 1998. They are actually the brains behind the highly popular application, CoCoPPA! Users can download icons and wallpapers to customised their phone. Other than CoCoPPA, United also ventured into real-time bidding business! I am looking forward to visit this unique company as this creative firm is operated by men in suits.

Hello, I'm XiangRui

This is my humble wiki page! I will be updating this wiki with my research works and thoughts on my study mission to Korea and Japan. I am SUPER looking forward to this exciting trip! We would be visiting promising start-ups and interesting places of interest in Korea and Japan. Bon voyage everyone!

Week 1: Introduction

Week 1 was a nice and relax session conducted by Prof Ben. It was great to meet up with my fellow TSM-ers and settle on some basic itinerary items. I guess the biggest highlight of the day is that we are visiting Japan too! *HURRAY*. Double the fun, double the excitement!

Also, I will be working with Janan! It is the very first time i worked with Janan and we will definitely work our ass off to secure the Japanese companies! We have decided to call ourselves, Team YOUTIAO! This is mainly because we are both skinny, like a you tiao.

I am appointed as the main designer of this TSM trip! First task entrusted to me is to design a nice logo for our TSM family! Don't worry, i won't fail you guys!

Week 2: Seniors' Sharing

Also, I have started emailing my first company, DesignCube . It is a Japan-based start-up and focused on crowdsourcing designs! Something that I am very interested in. Hopefully, I will get a reply from them soon! Signing off!

Week 6: Mid-Term Lunch Bonding

Still no news from DesignCube, I have decided to move on to other companies! Despite emailing and dropping them a message on Facebook, I still failed to receive a response from DesignCube. Sad news aside, the wonderful Agruz have organised a lunch bonding for the fellow TSM-ers! We have a quick lunch at Crossroad Cafe near Waterloo Street, and it was a fun session. The very wonderful jeremy has also volunteered to help us to source for companies through his contact from Wantedly.

Here's a few picture of our bonding session!

Week 12: Final Presentation

Thanks to Jeremy, we have secured United as the company we will be hosting. United is a very successful company that started in 1998. They are actually the brains behind the highly popular application, CoCoPPA! Users can download icons and wallpapers to customised their phone. Other than CoCoPPA, United also ventured into real-time bidding business! I am looking forward to visit this unique company as this creative firm is operated by men in suits.

Other than United, my fellow TSM-ers also shared many interesting startups. Learnt a lot from the presentation and there were a few companies that I'm extremely interested in.

  1. Wantedly - Japan's very own Linked-In by Jeremy and Jieting
  2. BnBHero - Korea's very own Airbnb! Lee Jin and Yunxi gave a very comprehensive story on the companies and the founder even came down to SMU himself! Very friendly guy!
  3. Memebox - Also by Lee Jin and Yunxi! Very interesting concept on selling comestic products!

I am all ready for this TSM trip! Looking forward to shopping and more shopping! But more importantly, learning from the start-ups that we are visiting! Signing off now!
