why TSM South Korea
Study missions is one of the best way to expand my view of the world. I am particularly interested in a study mission to South Korea because of the rich startup landscape. The Korean government has put in place many funding schemes to give startups early access to capital and this has resulted in an ideal ecosystem for new ventures.
In addition, going on a study mission will be a good break away from academic and classroom work.
Internship Opportunities
What type of internship opportunities interest you?
I am interested to take up roles as a web designer or project manager. However, I am also open to other IT-related job positions where I can learn more about technology-based company. In addition, I believed an oversea internship particularly will be enriching and fruitful. Serving an oversea internship is by far the most effective way to know another culture first-hand. And this will help me to become a more successful entrepreneur.
Any ideal firms (based in South Korea) that you wish to join?
I am particularly interested in working in Kakao and Nexon.
Kakao developed the highly successful and popular KakaoTalk, a free mobile messenger application for smartphones with free text and free call features. It is one of the most inspiring start-up stories in the Asia Pacific region and I will definitely like to join them if opportunity arises. I am very impressed how they are able to acquire 50 million users in less than a year time, despite the frenziedly competitive environment.
Nexon is the developer and publisher of many popular video games that I played in secondary school. Nexon has become a global leader in gaming with the introduction of the worldwide hit MMORPG “MapleStory”. I am very interested to work for this Korean gaming giant as I am highly impressed by their game design and game graphics.

What plan do you have in starting a business? (list existing business)
I have founded Nectary Studio in April 2013, a Tech Start-Up that focuses on designing and creating technology-driven platforms to connect people together. Nectary Studio is currently incubated by SMU IIE (Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship) and SPRING Singapore. My company will be launching our very first product, FlashWants, in early November. FlashWants is a social network that lets people broadcast their wants and also discover the desires of their friends. It is designed to be the trigger for meet ups, bringing all of us closer to friends via authentic wants. Nectary Studio has received $50,000 ACE Startup Grant and has garnered interests of many investors in the recently concluded Demo Day by SMU IIE.
Past Experiences
Describe your past experience (entrepreneurship, or works in start ups etc)
My past experience comes mainly from my parents as both my parents are entrepreneurs. Since young, I learn the ropes from my parents and was taught how to run and manage business. My parents founded Mega Discount Store, a electronic appliance retail store, 20 years ago. Our family business grew from a small outlet to a chain of retail stores with many branches. I am highly inspired by my parents' success story and I have decided to start my first business with my 2 other friends in 2013. It is a tiring journey but I enjoyed it. I guess, entrepreneurship is in the blood :)
