About VCNC

VCNC which stands for Value Creators & Company was founded in 2011. Between by VCNC has managed to garner over 5 million downloads at the end of 2013, which is a 150% increase in user adoption within a year. With numerous social apps existing nowadays, VCNC has been able to stick with their values on creativity, differentiation, integrity and advancement through challenges to remain at the top in attracting so many new users to use it as their platform to store memories as well as communicate with their lover. VCNC has also recently penetrated the Japanese market with between in early 2013.

Jaeuk (Jake) Park is the founder and CEO of VCNC. Ever since Jaeuk was a student, he always had the dream to be able to create something that can impact the world. And since his expertise laid in IT services, he believed he could change the life of people through that. His dreams and ideas were mutually shared by a few of his friends from college who eventually became his co-founders. Further, through the previous company where he worked as a project manager of the first mobile messenger application in Korea, he was able to meet a talented group of developers who agreed to embark on this dream together. They started off as a student entrepreneurship club at Seoul Nation University and the team grew closer through the ups and downs of developing several business ideas. And in February 2011, the team decided to pursue their dreams by starting VCNC.

Between

The idea of the Between application came from the need of couples to be able to have some form of privacy amidst the big openness of the social media boom. With social media, everything is opened and connected; however, there are times where some people, especially couples, would like to have some form of privacy. Between caters to that need.

Our Recommendations

Huge Global Potential

"Go big or go home." With more and more applications that caters for couples interaction appearing in the market, it is evident that there is a demand for couple apps that allow lovers to share moments with each other without external interference. This is an indication that VCNC has a big change to promote Between to the rest of the world and establish it as a leading couple app.

While most people will think that it is more viable to promote the application in Asia, where couples have a higher tendency to keep in contact very often; our group thinks that this is a good time to venture into the Western world. Early last year, a new American app called 'Couple' appeared in the market, however based on reviews, it is evident that it has yet to crack the market unlike what Between has achieved. Thus, it is highly important for VCNC to enter the market now and capture the market share for couple applications before it is too late.

Export data from the application

The main purpose of using Between will be to record and share memories with your lover. But what use will these be if we are unable to access it as and when we want?

One good addition to Between current functionality will be the exporting of data from the application. Our team suggests being able to export chat history from the app, allowing couples to read back on past conversations as and when they feel like it. This will save them the hassle of having to scroll through long lists of conversation which comes with the risk of not finding what they want.

Create webtoon using Between

Between can allow users to upload their photos, and input their face into preset webtoon template with animated figures. The photo will replace the empty face of the figure.

With this idea in mind, we recommend VCNC to allow the creation of webtoon with their application. There can be a few definite scenarios for dates that are highly common in Korea, and users will be allowed to input dialogue into the speech bubble. This will create a comic strip where the user and their partner are the main characters of the webtoon.

It serves as an alternative way to record memories, and even if the date scenario did not happen, it can serve as a form of entertainment.

Upload/send videos & Video calls

For now, Between is only able to send voice messages, text messages and photos. The trend of recording down special moments and subsequently uploading it is growing stronger, as proven by millions of short videos that are uploaded onto Instagram on a daily basis. Thus, we think that it will be good if VCNC will allow video sharing on their application as it is the latest way of recording memories.

Adding video calls as a new functionality is also another recommendation we will like to make to the company. There are some things that cannot be conveyed through text, and at those moments we will need a phone/video call.

This will ensure that everything a couple wants to do can be done on Between, not giving them a reason to scout for alternative application.

Mini games between couples

"Families that play together, stay together." Similarly, couples who play together, stay together. Mini games or trivia questions can add interesting elements into a couple's relationship. Furthermore, the company can make use of these mini games to retain their customer base by providing incentives whenever a game is won.
