Conclusion

Conclusion

Below are the summary of analysis we have done so far
Insight 1

  • Air Pollution index was fluctuate in yearly pattern. It reach peak every Dec/Jan.
  • During Dec/Jan, there are about 50% chance of air pollution level will perform below EU standard of 50µg/m3. This probability increase on Mar-October period to about 90%.

Insight 2

  • Air Pollution index has positive relationship with humidity and negative relationship with temperature. No significant relationship with pressure changes.
  • Temperature distribution across Sofia was quite evenly distributed, while air Pollutant start to increased from northern side to the south.
  • Temperature may not be the sole contribution of air pollutant.

Insight 3

  • Meteorology data confirmed that temperature has strong relationship with air pollution.
  • Higher elevation on the southern-west side of the city may be one of the key factor of high air pollution in Sophia. Further data are required to confirm this hypothesis.

Future Recommendation

For future study, we would like to proposed few improvement on data availability especially on:

  • Larger coverage of official government stations. Currently it only has 5 active stations located near to each other.
  • standardization and re-calibration of Citizen science air quality stations. This is to minimize missing/error data input.
  • Additional information on wind speed and direction
  • Larger coverage of geographical data such as human population density, location of hospital, residency, etc.
  • Government need to start to look at PM2.5 measurement as well since it also cause health issue. Need to upgrade current stations to enhance its capability.

Special Thanks

I would like to thanks my friends:

  • Goh I-vy, who helped me on processing Citizen science's data into lat/lon coordinate
  • Evelyn, who taught me on how to edit this wiki page.
