Conclusion
This section aims to present the key findings which were elaborated upon previously.
Summary Findings for Question 1
- Working sensors should be categorized by graphs with regular patterns.
- For instance on April, the detection of AGOC-3A by monitors 1 and 2 should be regular because both the trellis and cycle plot exhibit a relatively flat trend.
- Similarly for monitors 4-6, patterns are regular with reasonable fluctuations in readings throughout the month.
- However, there are instances where monitors appear to be malfunctioning as well. They are categorized by sharp spikes in readings which contradict the patterns displayed prior.
- For instance the trellis plot revealed that monitor 3 has a sharp spike on April and the cycle plot confirms it that readings were larger than usual on the 17th April. This is something unexpected.
- Monitor 8 also has a very high reading at 10:00 on the 15th April which is unlike its normal readings recorded during the month.
Summary Findings for Question 2
- AGOC-3A
Monitors 3-7 and 9 are able to detect this chemical fairly well. Monitor 3 was able to detect it at a higher concentration for April and August while monitor 4 picked up a higher concentration reading for December.
The chemical is typically released between 06:00 to 22:00 and the level of activity is higher between the 5th to 22nd each month.
- Appluimonia
This was mainly detected by monitors 3 and 4 even though 5-9 were able to detect it but to a small extent.
The chemical is released constantly through the 3 months but the frequency has increased dramatically during December with all the monitors registering an increase compared to the previous 2 months. Even though this chemical is not hazardous to humans or animals, it can affect their well being and standards of living due to the unpleasant smell.
- Chlorodinine
Similar to Appluimonia, this chemical is also being constantly released throughout the 3 months. The release typically spikes near the start and end approaching the end of the month.
The level of concentration detected by monitor 4 has increased dramatically from April to December which is a critical cause for concern because is it hazardous to human if inhaled or consumed.
- Methylosmolene
This chemical is released normally between 22:00 and 06:00 which is the opposite of AGOC-3A. This suggests that both chemicals may actually be related.
Methylosmolene is a hazardous chemical which is strongly regulated whereas AGOC-3A is a less hazardous chemical that is promoted for its usage. This disparity could reflect the operation activity of two different factories.
Summary Findings for Question 3
- Roadrunner, Kasio and Radiance are likely to be associated with the release of AGOC-3A
- Also, based on the findings, Kasio is likely to be releasing Cholorodinine and Methylosmolene as well which happens to be the two most hazardous chemicals.
- Lastly, Indigo is likely to be associated with the release of Appluimonia and to a lesser extent Methylosmolene.
- Using the chemical emission level as a proxy for factory operations, Roadrunner and Kasio seem to be operating more actively during 06:00 to 18:00. Kasios on the other hand, also appears to be more active during the wee hours typically between 0:00 to 06:00.
