Overview

After 2 rounds of previous user testing on Merchant and Admin functions, refinements and improvements made together with the feedbacks from Prof Gan, Prof Woodard, and our supervisor Prof Hoi during midterm, we were ready to release TheFoodieMarket for real merchants and admin to test our website.

Purpose

1) Were the real merchants and admin able to accomplish each of the tasks without any help from the facilitators?
2) Do the merchants find the functions and their UI intuitive, easy to understand and use?
3) What are the merchants and admin likes, dislikes or preferences with regards to TheFoodieMarket?
4) Will merchants actually use TheFoodieMarket in future to promote their advertisements?

General Tester Profile

Our 3rd user testing was held on the 20th October 2014, at Tomo Izakaya, a Japanese restaurant that one of our sponsor owns, located in the hearts of Clarke Quay. A total of 5 testers graced this event, which 4 of them tested as merchants and 1 of them (a staff who manages the Face book page of Tomo Izakaya) tested under the admin role.

Generally I think it’s easy to use vs other platforms but can be further simplified or have more pop ups for the people who do not or are not strong with Register on website, etc

Hangs easily – could this be due to pic that size is too big? Need to specify size and definition of advertisement image merchant can upload

Creating a platform to increase likes BUT have to entice people come to the website to drive likes

Christin Joyce Rico

The website is read able and understandable

When logging out, I prefer the word “Log out” to be visible than an image of the arrow

When signing in, it is so easy, no need to input a lot of personal data

Nil

I suggest that you need to make your website more colorful to attract more users to view the website

  • TheFoodieMarket word should have a “home/house” logo next to it for ppl to know they can return to merchant homepage by clicking onto that.
  • There should be a back button in every page e.g.: back button next to “Approved” section tab so users can click and go back to where they remember if they forgot what page is currently about, no need to restart everything like now by clicking on function button.

Upload, view ads by statuses

Feedback

  • Everything in each of the UI should be CENTRALIZED, i.e.: 10-80-10% ratio like Face book so users just look in the middle and can see everything needed. Currently website users have to look left center right very easy to miss out things
  • Merchants who use this website want things done quickly, website is quite fast, clear and easy to understand but signage can be improved; people don’t want to read so icons must be easy to understand.
  • Icons have to be enlarged

  • Need to state size of the file and give indication like JPEG, TIF, PNG, 850 pxl x 850 pxl, or etc.
  • Should make more category for other Niche Markets

Nil

Very common functions; website should be more interactive. Blasting of promotions and more customer choice can only be made with more category targeting

Colour of UI like want to sleep, should be abit darker, colour of words more striking.

Insights gained

Testers did not rate the overall impression of TheFoodieMarket highly in terms of usability and user interface impressions. However, they acknowledge that they are willing to use this website if improvements of the website are made, which signifies that TheFoodieMarket is usable with further refinements.
