Why TSM South Korea?

Motivation to join TSM

  • Learn from the experiences that technology companies encountered when starting up
  • Understand the ups and downs entrepreneurs and companies go through to fulfil their dreams
  • Positive feedback from friends who attended TSM South Korea 2013

Why South Korea?

  • Experience the Korean working culture and emulate the drive, determination, resilience and the X-factors that Korean businesses have
  • Understand how so many Korean chaebol-s and startups managed to emerge and reach out to the rest of the world so quickly and powerfully with their products
  • Know what X-factors they used to overtake so many mega corporations which used to be far ahead of them.

Internship opportunities

Interests

I am interested in any type of internship opportunities as I believe that there is a different learning experience that comes along with every one

Ideal Korean firms

Daum Communications
Daum Communications created the popular Korean web portal with search engine, online community, e-mail and many other services.

It's one of my ideal firms because of one of its products—Daum Digital View—a touchscreen panel located in Seoul Metro stations (I'm a train and bus enthusiast!) that allow users to search for public transport travel information, directions on maps, eateries within the vicinity, etc. Despite South Korea's extremely high smartphone penetration rate, these kiosks are still popular and useful. See how it looks like in this Daum UX Lab's usability study and watch how it works in this video.

Naver
Naver created the popular Korean search engine of the same name. Its Japanese arm is the creator of the popular messaging app, LINE.

Entrepreneurship

My plan is to start a business focusing on accountancy and IT services for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Because of their sizes, they usually do not have a full range of departments in their organisation. As such, they are in need of people or companies with specialised skillsets in areas such as accountancy and IT to keep their businesses growing.

Past experiences

I worked in an IT startup and developed web application for their client. From there, I experienced how working in a startup is like and that has made me wonder what are the secrets behind its success. The working culture, job roles and expectations were very different as compared to my other past working experience in a multinational corporation. Despite its size, it's still able to meet clients' expectations and prosper. From there, I understood that it's the skills, not size, that matters. :O
