D.camp, the dream bank

D.camp, Seoul

  • Is a non-profit organization / incubator dedicated to the revitalization and youth entrepreneurship ecosystem jobs.


  • Funded by twenty banks in Korea.


  • One of the largest foundations in Korea to support start-up activities, with an asset base of approximately USD 470M.


  • Serves as a local start-up hub for the most talented and passionate start-up entrepreneurs and professionals.


  • Has 1,317 core members, 2,579 general members and hosted about 180 startup-related events in less than a half year.

  • 01 January 2014 - Business Center D.OFFICE open.


  • 27 September 2013 - "Startup Korea" was launched.


  • 09 August 2013 - Fruition camp D.CISION, was founded.


  • 28 June 2013 - First D.DAY.


  • 27 March 2013 - D.CAMP Overview.


  • 08 March 2013 - 'SXSW2013' participation which bought 7 Korean start-ups to SXSW to showcase their products and Service, under the name of "Geeks from Gangnam".


  • 07 July 2012 - First Investment.

D.Day

D.Day

  • Debut last Friday of each month for the start-up
    • Start-ups showcases their product and make their debut appearance in front of expert panels and 200 audiences.
    • Provides opportunities for start-ups to meet their potential business partners or investors.
    • Winners of the program are awarded with dedicated office space at D.CAMP for a given period of time.
    • Judging panel and feedback panel consists of an array of companies such as LG Electronics, IDG Ventures, Future Stream Networks and also K Cube Ventures.


D.Cision

D.Cision

  • Overnight workshop to see if one has the cuts to form a start-up.
    • Consists of workshops and lectures for participants to better realize what is their inner motivations and how they can make it into a concrete business solution.
    • To help potential entrepreneurs to come out of their comfort zone.
    • The first D.Cision took place on 9 August with 35 participants with Hongtak Kim, Executive Creative Director of Cheil Worldwide and Jimmy Rim, CEO of K Cube Ventures, attending as mentors.


D.Party event

D.Party

  • Monthly networking party co-hosted with other organization.
    • Each D.Party has a different themed seminar followed by a networking session.
    • Former co-hosts includes Fast Track Asia, a seed accelerator and the Seoul City Government.
    • Serves as a platform for discussion on the economy and also various start-up stories.
    • A venue to network and meet others.


D.Jump

  • D.CAMP start-up acceleration program partnering with Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
    • Aims to incubate 10 start-ups during the period.
    • Participating start-ups is paired with big corporate from designated sector to gain access to consulting opportunity and to leverage their network and marketing channels.
    • Provides unique opportunity for start-ups to learn from the best in the industry so that they can pave their path to success.
    • Shortlisted start-ups will be given the chance to showcase their handiwork in Korea and United States.


D.Mentor

  • D.CAMP's unique weekly bottom-up mentoring session.
    • A curated, weekly lecture and learning sessions at D.CAMP that hosts entrepreneurs and industry experts from different fields and countries.
    • Speakers are selected upon D.CAMP members' request.
    • Serves as a platform for people to learn from others experiences.
    • Past speakers includes reonwed CEOs / Directors from Uber (company) Launcher, BootstrapLabsand 5Rocks.


D.Global

  • Global outreaching program for startups.
    • Allow start-ups in Korea to meet, showcase, exchange and learn ideas from other countries.
    • 'SXSW2013' participation which bought 7 Korean start-ups to SXSW to showcase their products and Service, under the name of "Geeks from Gangnam" in Austin Texas.
    • Serves as a jump-start for local start-ups to break into the international market.

Investment breakdown

Investments Activities in D.camp

Direct Financing for Startups

  • Provied direct financing for 25 promising start-ups in collaboration with Korea Technology Finance Corporation and Korea Credit Guarantee Fund.
  • Invested about USD 5.2M where each start-up receives investment ranging form USD 100K-300K.
  • Portfolio start-ups cover a variety of industries form medical devices to animation production to game/software publishers.
  • Start-ups given exclusive opportunities to participate in various D.Programs to promote their services to investors and affiliates.


Co-Investment

  • To provide help to entrepreneurs in the very early stage as launching a start-up is hard.
  • Brings together companies to co-invest in promising start-ups.
  • D.camp made its first co-investment with SK Planet in an accelerator program KStartup.
  • Aims to explore more partnership opportunities for co-investment with explore more partnership opportunities for co-investment with incubators, Venture Incubators (VCs) and accelerators.
