Why TSM South Korea?
- What motivates you to join TSM?
It will be my first time travelling to South Korea!! Besides having the fun travelling in South Korea, I believe in learning outside of classroom. This is one of the rare opportunities where I can put my learning and my experience into good use.
I have learnt so far is that during IS101, I have understand every company has their own problems. Now given a chance overseas at Korea as Asia’s fourth-largest economy and a major player among the world’s top exporting nations, I wish to experience first hand what are the actual challenges and difficulties a company faces and what how technology solution was considered to be a solution to their problem.
- Why pick South Korea?
Currently it is one of the Asia's Fastest Changing City. In the midst of their rapid modernization and expansion, Seoul is moving onto the world's stage of as one of Asia's most vibrant and exciting cities. I hope to gain more exposure and broaden my knowledge on their business work.
Under the historical records of Korea, we know that there is a war between the North and the South between 1950 to 1953, and within a short 2-3 decades. By choosing Korea, I hope besides gaining educational knowledge, I also wish to gain first-hand experience in deeper understanding of the subject between them, searching the root cause of the issue, how it escalated to where it is today.
Internship Opportunites
- What types of internship opportunities interest you?
Opportunities such as Assistant Project Manager of IT-related project or any IT-related position in which I will be able to transfer the knowledge I have learnt in school thus far.
- Any ideal firms (based in South Korea) that you wish to join?
I am very interested to join and learn the culture of Kakao. It is a free mobile messenger application for smartphones with free text and free call features. Originated from Korea and for some reasons, it got some of my friends in Singapore to start using it too! In less than 2 years in the market, they have reached 57 million users registered on August 2012! It is definitely one of the most inspiring start-up stories in South-East Asia and will be more than happy to learn from them if opportunity is presented to me.
At the same time, I am also very interested in having an opportunity to work in Samsung. This South Korean multinational conglomerate company has many things to learn from with more than 70 years of history that has grown to become one of the world's leading electronics companies. With the internship offered with Samsung, I hope to have a breakthrough of ideas in products that will help shape the history of the digital revolution.

I have strong interest in using technology in alignment with Tourism industry. I have worked in Pan Pacific Singapore during my internship and realise the strong dependency on technology. Be it from Finance or Marketing to Information Technology or even Housekeeping department, all of them use different applications to help them with their daily work. I would like to explore this area of business with the right team of people.

I do not have much entrepreneurship experiences to share with or work in start up before. But what I have is a set of experience that is different from others which I believe will help me in start up if I get the opportunity. Through the years, it has developed perseverance, determination and looking optimistic in all situations in me. Now, there is a opportunity presented to me and allows me to work with my IS480 team (DR.Jean Labs) together with a start up company called Sqkii to be my first stepping stone towards entrepreneurship. Furthermore there is a chance that I can learn from the successful start-up companies in Korea to learn from them. Building on giants allow me to achieve greater heights!
I am currently working in a start-up to develop a new advertising platform called Sqkii. This is also under my IS480 project together with Eleazar Lim, Janan Tan, Denise Wong, Rafael Loh and Nicholas Li. The concept of advertising is as a content rather than a sideline. We gotten a patent for this and have 100% acceptance from 20 over companies that are interested to invest in us.
