Why TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

It's Silicon Valley!!! This is almost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit legendary companies, witness ambitious spirit of startup founders in person and learn from their experiences, as well as build meaningful connections with the people we meet along the way.

TSM also attracts other ambitious, tech-driven students so this trip will be an opportunity to get to know the (aspiring) technopreneurs in SMU and build a community to keep dreaming with

  • Where would you like to visit?

Impossible Foods, OpenAI, Anthropic, Apple, Google, EOS Data Analytics, The Intel Museum

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Businesses that aim to preserve, promote or advance efficiency in the following areas: ecology, conservation and agriculture. Big plus if they place a heavy emphasis on being data-driven!

One business that I find particularly interesting is Cromai, a Brazillian agritech startup that uses computer vision for crop monitoring. To me, businesses like Cromai are especially inspiring because they are proof that there is a niche out there that marries the skills I have/hope to pick up and my love for animals and nature. This keeps me going when times are tough... aka during project week

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

I do not have any concrete plans to start a business at the moment, but am very keen to start a business that uses machine learning to aid wildlife conservation. Technology has not stopped advancing, and the types of sensors available to ecologists have increased while their costs have decreased, meaning that scientists in the field are able to collect more and higher quality data. I'd like to be able do something in the spirit of using machine learning to generate greater insights and predictions using this data as current industry standard techniques are generally unable to handle such vast amounts of data.
