Why Virtual TSM?
What motivates you to join TSM?
- I am motivated to join TSM as it is the global epicentre of technology innovation home to many tech giants, startups and venture capital firms. I believe that the opportunity for learning would be endless. By immersing myself in the heart of the industry, I will be able to gain firsthand insights into the diverse roles within the tech industry. I will also be able to witness the entrepreneurial spirit that Silicon Valley is known for. I believe that it will be able to inspire and motivate me in my academic pursuits and career goals.
- Additionally, I feel that this trip will bridge the gap between what I have learnt in the classroom and real-world application, especially in the context of business processes and startup ideation. With Silicon alley being synonymous with innovation, I can witness firsthand how business innovate and come up with their cutting-edge technological solutions. I believe I will be able to learn a lot from the people, as well as companies, there.
Where would you like to visit?
- Stanford University: I hope to explore their campus which has produced many tech innovators. Additionally, I hope to attend some tech-related events there.
- Tech Company HQs such as Google, Netflix, Tesla: I hope to visit their headquarters and hopefully, attend some their guided tours. I am interested in learning more about these companies’ cultures.
Starting a business
What types of business interest you?
I am deeply interested in businesses that leverage technology to solve complex issues and disrupt traditional industries. This includes:
- Healthtech businesses: I am passionate about businesses that develop digital health solutions, telemedicine platforms and health analytics tools. I believe that the healthcare industry will continue to see significant improvements through ongoing technological advancements. Healthtech businesses are able to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes while reducing costs.
- IoT and smart devices: The IoT transforms the way we interact with the physical world. They make our lives more efficient, convenient and connected. It improves our lives by allowing us to save time and effort.
- Data Analytics: I believe that data drives new insights and guides us in decision-making. It is able to empower organisations across various sectors to make informed choices. As such, I am enthusiastic about the diverse range of applications that data startups can have.
What plans do you have in starting a business?
I aim to start a healthcare business that leverages data to improve patient outcomes and healthcare operations. For instance, making use of predictive modelling and machine learning algorithms to forecast outbreaks of illnesses, predicting the condition of patients and predicting a spike in resource needs.
