Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

In June 2019, I participated in the Google Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSIx) Program in Singapore. My wonderful experience in this program inspired me to study computer science in university, and I aspired to join a major tech company like Google in future.

However, after joining SMU as a Computer Science student, I am now aware of the entrepreneurship and startup ecosystem in SMU, such as the BIG incubator program. I am intrigued about the prospect of launching an entrepreneurial venture with like-minded peers.

I believe that the TSM would provide a great opportunity for me to learn more about the startups in Japan, which is a dynamic entrepreneurial hub in Asia. I also have experience interning in a Rakuten, a Japanese technology conglomerate based in Tokyo. My pleasant experience in the company fuelled my interest in learning more about the startup scene in Tokyo.

  • Where would you like to visit?

I understand that there is a vibrant startup scene in Tokyo. In particular, I am keen to visit startups working on automotive engines, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence.

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Since young, I have been interested in creative design, and have been designing and creating things as a hobby. I was the Creative Director of the VJC Photography Society, where I pursued my interest in photography. Thus, I am interested in businesses in the creative design industries such as digital entertainment, gaming, fashion, film, etc. There is huge potential to apply new technologies such as AI to transform these creative design industries and generate significant business value.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

I do not have concrete plans to start a business now, but I am keen to explore the possibility to do a startup with some like-minded peers, preferably to develop new technologies and solutions for the creative design industries such as digital entertainment, gaming, fashion, film, etc.
