hello

Why TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

Since young, I have been interested in starting up my own business because I derive satisfaction from coming out with creative solutions to improve even the little things in my life. Previously, I have worked with a startup LDR Technology and it was a humbling experience to take on a digital leadership role to further market their self-guided walking tour app and learn about the motivations of creating the app. Besides, I was also a curriculum developer at Ripplecreate, an edtech startup, where I create content on how to develop mobile applications for young students. The curriculum would then be implemented on their portal for users to do remote learning. This particular stint has fuelled my desire to create value in the edtech industry. Given edtech companies such as Coursera report net losses due to low conversion rate as a free model, I would like to learn more about how edtech startups overcome issues like this. Lastly, I found the experiences shared by the seniors in the SMU SCIS TSM Silicon Valley telegram channel very insightful, where they had an irreplaceable opportunity to network with industry mentors in high-growth international startups. As such, I hope to be part of TSM for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, to get inspired and challenged by a highly innovative environment.

  • Where would you like to visit?

Silicon Valley: Apple Park, Google, Meta, Coursera, Stanford University

Starting a Business

  • What types of business interest you?

I am particularly interested in the field of edtech, creating content and resources to provide an individualised learning experience for students. This type of business attracts me since I personally find online platforms convenient and hassle-free when it comes to learning.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

While there are no concrete plans yet, I hope to add value to the edtech industry and create a centralised platform for young individuals to pick up technical skills on their own. I have networked with parents and they wished that there was a platform to expose their kids to the basics at a young age, to lower the learning curve in technology. Users can also access their progress and ideally come out with small projects which they can showcase in future. Thus, l hope that through this TSM, it will ignite the spirit in me to take a step towards starting my own business possibly during my penultimate or final year of studies.
