Why Virtual TSM?
- What motivates you to join TSM?
When I first heard about this programme, I was very amazed for such an opportunity to be available for us SCIS students. I could not believe that I would have such a once in a lifetime chance to be able to travel and yet do something that I am so interested in, be exposed to the technological industry overseas - what more, in Silicon Valley.
I first started gaining interest in the tech sector and computing in general about 3 years ago. I always thought to myself that if I were ever to have a conversation with my past self, she would not imagine where I am right now. I am pursuing an education in something that I was not even exposed to as a child, and I took a leap of faith to choose to study IS in university despite not having any programming background.
I have never once regretted my decision, as I have been able to broaden my horizons and discover a passion in an area that I never knew I could be interested in. As society evolves to have an increasing number of girls studying tech, I am excited to be able to meet other likeminded people and travel alongside them to learn more about the start up and global tech company cultures overseas.
- Where would you like to visit?
Silicon Valley. It would be unforgettable to witness for myself what life working overseas is like, because I have always dreamed to migrate to a new country once I start working.
Starting a business
- What types of business interest you?
Web/Mobile App Development
- What plan do you have in starting a business?
Instead of starting a business, I plan to be able to help my father to transform his current business into one that is more relevant in today's world. As his company is a manufacturing company that started close to 50 years ago, it is still using a lot of legacy technology. After I graduate, I aim to help this company and its business processes to become more efficient and hopefully be able to leverage on cloud for greater scalability as well.
Other than that, I also have aspirations to become a volunteer/missionary to go to less fortunate countries and introduce the children there to the technology that I have found a love for, and hopefully instil a love for technology in them as well. If I choose to pursue this dream, I would want to be able to contribute greatly for the organisation in which I would partner with, and offer my computing skills to help them in creating an educational platform that can then be accessible by the children in these countries.
