Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

The confluence of innovation and technology in the technological field, driven by the start-up culture has always intrigued me. It started with the casual browsing of Netflix and the K-drama, Start-Up that first introduced me to the start-up concept. TSM is an exciting endeavour to me as it provides a key opportunity to personally experience one of best start-up ecosystems globally. Seoul has constantly been regarded as a top innovation and technological hub, reputable for both its blooming regional and global start-up ecosystem and home to more than a dozen “unicorns”, successfully start-ups valued at more than a billion dollars. It is inspiring to witness the vision of many tech companies in striving to provide valuable solutions to uncharted societal problems. It will be rewarding to witness the underlying reasons that enables the success of a tech start-up. Through TSM, I will be able to learn about Tech Incubator Programs that serves as the launching pad for many start-ups, the different funding stages and lifecycle of a start-up, and the tech-savvy Korean culture that enables the start-up scene in Seoul.

  • Where would you like to visit?

Seoul: Google campus, Samsung Town, SNU, Dot Corporation, Seoul Global Center Google campus is certainly one of the places that I would like to visit as it Google’s accelerator for start-ups, offering some of the most interesting and rewarding campuses that help start-ups go global. They have various programs such as Cloud Academy and Founders Academy that aims to allow wide eyed individuals looking to chase their start-up dream.

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Some of the types of businesses that interest me are businesses that are able to do good for the society. For instance, education applications that helps the under privileged gain access to unlimited knowledge bank, guided with study tips and practices that teaches others how to learn better. Some other businesses would include a mobile application that “sees” the surroundings and perform other functions such as reading texts, explaining situations and objects to the blind, allowing the disadvantaged to improve its quality of life through the use of technology.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

Currently, I have various ideas and plans to start a business in the near future, potentially after a few years of work. For instance, one idea that I would like for it to come to fruition is the use of mobile applications to provide language and education lessons to the disadvantaged such as the lower income families. This will allow access to education through the use of a mobile phone and potentially improve their quality of life.
