Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

This program will allow me to gain a better understanding of the Korea’s start-up scene. South Korea is well-known for heavily relying on its reputation for innovation and technology, which has resulted in the formation of a number of top South Korean startups. My seniors told me a lot about TSM, including how they learned a lot about the local startup communities first hand and formed new friendships as a result of the experience. This opportunity, I believe, will be an eye opener and allow me to grow as an individual, allowing me to become more innovative and critical thinker. It will also teach me how to create a roadmap for my future startup while learning from the founders of the world's top startups.

  • Where would you like to visit virtually?

Silicon Valley, New York City, Hong Kong, Shen Zhen, Tokyo, Seoul, Germany. These countries have a strong start-up presence and have produced top startups globally.

  • Where would you like to visit physically?

Seoul: Google, Samsung, LG Electronics, Kakao, Coupang

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Businesses that are reshaping an industry or changing traditional practices to improve efficiency. Furthermore, businesses that contribute to the enhancement of our daily lives and have a positive impact on society. Personally, I am drawn to companies that combine technology and finance. More specifically, how technological capabilities are being used to improve the efficiency of Financial Markets processes or decision making. Algorithmic trading, for example, leverages on technology to improve speed and accuracy when executing orders.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

As an athlete, I became aware of a very common problem: people find it difficult to find like-minded people to play sports with. A game of soccer, for example, requires a total of 22 people; similarly, a game of basketball or volleyball requires a small group of people. I had an idea to create an app to help match people looking for others to play sports with. Because people are sometimes shy and unable to approach others in public for a game, this application will help to alleviate this problem. Some additional features that I have considered include adding a "Competition Feature" where individuals can sign up and compete against one another for a small incentive.
