Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

I am very excited to learn about the startup scene in Korea especially in Seoul where there are many startup communities that help build a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. I have previously worked with Quest Ventures and had a peek into how startups go through the process of developing their business models, and this made me interested in the different innovative ideas and how startups grow to gain the trust of investors. It inspired me to look forward to technologies I can create using what I learned in school to help our society in the future. Hence, I wish to join TSM to learn more about how startups in Korea came up with their ideas and how they worked towards making their dreams into reality! Besides learning about the startup scene, I really liked the Korean culture, mannerism and heritage! I love love loveee their food and language and I think that it will be really fun to be able to experience this with friends on the trip, which is another reason I wish to join TSM! :)

P.S. I really enjoyed the Korean drama Startup and I am really excited to meet real entrepreneurs who have been through the process, and cannot wait to hear their sharing about their experiences, successes and hardships they went through to build their dream into reality!

  • Where would you like to visit?

Seoul: Samsung, LG, SNU as they are known for their research capabilities and incubator program, Kakao, Gangnam for all the fun activities!

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

I am very interested in the Tech for Social Good initiative, which is something I aspire to contribute to in the future. There are many amazing technologies that empower those who are less privileged such as sound maps to help the visually impaired navigate their way and assistive technologies to help those with hearing impediments when video conferencing. I believe that Tech for Social Good is important, and definitely a fulfilling cause I wish to be a part of in the future.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

In a few years time, I wish to open a small company that focuses on researching and producing tools that can help people with Down Syndrome enhance their hand mobility skills and ease their verbal communication with others. Having worked with beneficiaries with Down Syndrome, I understand the difficulties when caregivers and beneficiaries communicate with each other as it may be difficult for our beneficiaries to articulate their words. I wish to research about assistive technologies that can help translate/ articulate their words with the use of machine learning to help facilitate conversations between care givers and our beneficiaries. I also wish to research on tools that can help improve our beneficiaries’ hand mobility to help them perform daily tasks better. I wish to research in this areas because they are crucial parts of their daily lives and it is extremely important to empower them to perform daily tasks with less difficulties.
