Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

My dad owns a Singapore SME 500 business so I have seen firsthand how difficult it is to be an entrepreneur. I hope to gain exposure to technopreneurship so that I can help my dad digitalise his business as they still use physical forms and have manual processes. I want to interact with technopreneurs and learn about their businesses, the difficulties they face and their thought processes. Additionally, I have experience building applications from school and external projects and felt a really strong sense of satisfaction pushing those apps into production and seeing others use my team’s application. With the experience I gain from TSM, I hope to build on those applications or develop a new idea that can provide value to the public.

  • Where would you like to visit?

Pangyo Techno Valley. Gangnam where bigger tech companies like Hyundai and Google have incubators for tech startups. Outside of Korea, Silicon Valley, New York and Taipei.

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Businesses that leverage on new technologies like cloud, blockchain, analytics and machine learning like AWS, ByteDance and Tesla or smaller companies like Grab, Carousell and Jovian (software education platform) as these are the companies that encourage true technopreneur mindsets of being adaptable and constantly improving.

  • What plans do you have in starting a business?

For the Ellipsis-Goldman Sachs Hackathon, my team and I built an interface where beginners could learn how to trade using different indicators and backtesting. In our Social Analytics and Applications SMUX project, we further built on this idea of helping beginners trade but with DeFi coins as per our client, 191 Lab’s request. We built a real time, interactive dashboard by turning conversations on social media into quantitative sentiments and plotting it against price to see if sentiment could predict price. This dashboard had an automated extract-transform-load pipeline and customisable settings for more advanced users. I think that my team could build on this idea in the future and possible develop a web application that could be pushed to production.
