Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM? I've always been interested in how startups leverage technology to enhance businesses models and disrupt incumbents. I want to explore the most interesting start-ups, learn about the next big thing, live and breathe the entrepreneurial environment, and hopefully to be inspired. Beyond innovations, I want to understand what it takes to build a technology startup from the ground up, and the different considerations that founders had.
  • Where would you like to visit virtually? Silicon Valley! It's the centre for startup activity - I'm sure it'd be very different from the culture in Singapore. I have often heard that SV is a much more nurturing environment for startups compared to Singapore, and have always wondered whether this can be boiled down to cultural differences between the two countries. If so, I'd love to learn what makes the place "tick".

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you? With the recent hype surrounding blockchain, I would love to explore this field more deeply, and hopefully better understand the value proposition that blockchain technology is bringing. Besides this, I would love to be exposed to more B2B businesses. Personally, I'm currently more familiar with consumer facing businesses that I personally use, but there's so much more to explore within the B2B space.
  • What plan do you have in starting a business? Honestly, I don't have a plan at the moment. Hoping to get some inspiration somehow somewhere, and to try something small before I graduate! In my work in the future, I'd be working closely with Startups founders, so the knowledge attained here would still be extremely applicable.

Past Experiences (optional)

Spent my time hopping around vastly different industries and roles to try to find what excites me the most
Amazon Web Services - Startup Solution Architect and Enterprise Operations, building processes and running engagements to drive customer success with AWS products
Shopee - Product Management (Paid Advertisements), where I worked on analysing data and finding opportunities to drive revenue
Funding Societies (P2P lending) - Data Analytics, where I worked on building BI capabilities for the business teams
Deloitte - Mergers and Acquisitions, where I worked on M&A advisory, and econometric modelling for thought leadership
