Why TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

I've heard a ton of examples used in class when talking about successful businesses, but felt that I've never had the opportunity to actually interact with them. This study mission presents this missing opportunity in my university thus far and I believe it would be a greatly rewarding experience. I'm not sure what I will be able to learn from each startup, but I'm very excited and more than eager to hear every one of their stories.

  • Where do you NOT want to travel for TSM?

None, anywhere is cool

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Businesses that interest me are those that transform existing industries that have been stagnant for many years. For example, Coursera or Grab, who have disrupted their industries through the use of technology to reimagine what the business might be in the first place. I feel that these companies are really the driving force towards a digital and arguably more convenient future, which would also spur others to snap out of their complacency and innovate as well.

  • What plan do you have in starting a business?

To be honest I presently do not have any plans to start a business. However, I believe there's many key learning points we can gather from small businesses that can be applied to our daily lives as well. But who knows what the future will bring?

Past Experiences (optional)

  • List your startup experiences

Software Engineer Intern at Gaussian Robotics Singapore, helped test their applications and deploy their cleaning robots in various locations (Changi Airport, Schools). Developed PowerBi dashboards for clients to better understand the cleanliness of their facilities.

Making others' lives a little bit easier
I have a strong passion for improving other's lives, which led me to pursue a diploma in Psychology during my polytechnic days in a bid to further understand difficulties people face. Even though I've switched to IS, I'm glad to say that this passion still burns strong in me, which led me to join Conjunct Consulting. During my first cycle as an associate consultant, I saw how technology can be married perfectly with helping others, where we provided UIUX and functionality improvements to our client's website, improving the user journey of beneficiaries. Having seen first hand how technology can benefit others in a tangible manner not only validated my decision to join IS, but also gives me an immense sense of gratification.

Story telling
I've always loved hearing individuals talk about their interests and experiences. One such way of sharing these stories is through short films. Making videos has been a hobby of mine since my family got our first digital camera when I was 9. I've made countless videos throughout my polytechnic days and have entered a few short film competitions as well. I've also been blessed with the opportunity to make a few promotional videos for small startups in Singapore, and even helped my Statistics Professor, Ms Rosie, record and edit a 45 minute film for our STATX project. I must admit, I still have much to learn in this regard, but my strong interest in this leads me to constantly improve my skills.
