Why TSM?
What motivates you to join TSM?
When I was 11, I started my own e-commerce venture that brought in profits in the thousands. That venture got shut down by a cyber attack, but my entrepreneurial spirit stayed on.
Now that I'm 21, I'm still constantly looking for new opportunities and areas of growth, be it to start new initiatives or to grow existing ones. My proudest achievement would be in starting Being Singapore, an initiative that brings fitness accessible to all, regardless of abilities or disabilities.
As a student in tech, I truly believe that, when used appropriately, tech can shake up any industry, bringing impact in incredible ways. As a consumer electronics hobbyist, I also get plenty excited learning about the latest innovations and hope that I will be able to ignite that excitement first-hand by working with a start-up under TSM.
Combining my interest in technology, business and the social space, I wish to join TSM to challenge myself and learn the ways of entrepreneurship from startups and the people behind it. I also wish to be inspired from the fellow budding entrepreneurs in class, sharing ideas and sharpening thoughts together.
Where do you NOT want to travel for TSM?
I honestly cannot think of anywhere that I would not like to travel for TSM. For more developed countries (thinking Americas, East Asia etc), there is much to learn from the robust startup scene. For less developed countries, there will exist plenty of opportunities for potential entry. I truly believe that there is something to be learnt from every country. If I had to choose, I would choose to not travel to countries that primarily speak a different language (i.e. not English or Chinese), since I would think of communication to be important in facilitating learning
Starting a business
What types of business interest you?
Social enterprises
I believe that all businesses should be value-adding to society, although there may not be a need for an explicit social mission.
Social enterprises are, in my opinion, one of the most difficult business models to operate under, as profit-making and social causes seem to contract each other. However, when done right, social enterprises can be some of the most impactful and meaningful businesses out there. I am particularly excited to see how technology can be used and integrated into social enterprises. My idealistic wish is for social enterprises to be a standard business model of the future, so seeing many spring up in the recent years get me really excited!
Disruptive technology
As a consumer electronics/ software hobbyist, I honestly get bored with incremental yearly improvements, although I recognise the importance of these small changes. Whenever there is an introduction of a new product, or when a new company comes in with a completely redesigned way of the current, I get excited about how this would change my current way of living. I am optimistic about the consumer electronics/ software market especially with the rapid growth of new entrants, as this means more competition and potentially more innovation and ultimately better products for me!
What plan do you have in starting a business?
I intend on scaling my current initiative, Being Singapore, to be sustainable in the long term. This means working on a training programme for the fitness instructors and ensuring a consistent stream of trainers and students. I also hope to do some advocacy work in the near future, educating people with disabilities about the importance of fitness and then educating the public to be an inclusive Singapore.
Over the summer, I also have plans with a few friends to work on a social application that facilitates family and friends to hang out, through activity recommendations and time scheduling. We are hoping to onboard partners onto the application to promote their activities and build a comprehensive platform so that no Singaporean will ever say 'there's nothing to do in Singapore' ever again.

Random adventures fueled by adrenaline
A preview of my dumb adventures:
- Hitching a ride from a highway (I soon found out it was not legal to walk on a highway, but no regrets).
- Cycling from SMU to Pasir Ris at 3am in jeans, on a wonky SGBike.
- Cutting my hair short on a whim (it's a big thing, guys)
Genuine conversations
Many of my friendships develop over suppers. Hopefully the travel bubble works out so I'll be able to have late night conversations with my coursemates overseas!
