Why TSM South Korea?

  • What motivates me to join TSM?

With a lifelong goal to start my own business, I believe this TSM is an opportunity I must seize to begin my exploration in the technopreneurial world! As the world accelerates together with the advancement of technology, I believe the marriage between technology and entrepreneurship is essential in the creation of our entrepreneurial ideas. Embarking on this TSM, I would like to broaden my perspectives and deepen my interest in the area of technopreneurship. Also, I hope to develop valuable insights as well as to learn from like minded individuals during this trip. Finally, I am seeking for an internship opportunity with a start up in South Korea and believe this TSM will help me realize this.

  • Why pick South Korea?

I have heard many amazing stories from my friends about South Korea but never had the chance to visit the country. From the mouth-watering food, the beautiful sights, the rich culture, the awesome people and of course to the years ahead in technology Korea will enable me to experience, I hope embarking on this TSM will give me my very own story to share with my family and friends.

Starting a Business

  • What types of businesses interest me?

I have an inclination towards the social sector, as it aligns with my personal beliefs and values. As such, my interest is in the idea of “Social Technopreneurship”. This concept has inspired me to believe that we can use the potential of technology to improve the lives of the needy in our society. This encompasses the disabled, the elderly and also people in need of financial sustainability.

  • What plans do I have in starting a business?

Currently, I am building up on my experiences and gaining a better understanding of the social sector in Singapore. At this moment, I am working on a consulting project in the non-profit sector and also in the process of planning a project to Myanmar to educate villagers on financial management and business creation. Hopefully through these real life experiences, I will be able to draw better insights on the problems faced in our country and the region, and ultimately to contribute a viable solution.

Past Experiences

I have participated in a few Entrepreneurship Bootcamps. In my first boot camp, my team worked on a smartphone application aimed to serve as an online platform for anybody to trade their skills for monetary incentives. My second boot camp was with SMU Eagles Inc. where I attended workshops on idea creation and idea pitching. I have also attended the “Start Up 101” Workshop conducted by SMU Institute of Innovation and Enterpreneurship where guest speakers were invited to teach us on how to start and build up a business.

What keeps me ticking?

The time, energy and opportunities gifted to me every day.
