Why TSM South Korea?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

Back in my polytechnic days, I was selected as the augural batch and ambassador of Nanyang Polytechnic to encourage Japanese students to come to Singapore for exchange. I spent 6 months in Japan, Hiroshima in Hiroshima University of Economics (HUE). In addition, I was awarded HUE scholarship due to academic achievements, extra-curricular involvement and character. During my stay of 5 months, I completed basic level of Japanese classes and was involved in a language exchange program, teaching a group of Japanese students English to help them prepare for their TOEIC test, exhibiting communication and interpersonal skills. I demonstrated soft skills such as flexibility and adaptability living in Japan, a different environment, overcoming challenges faced such as communication barrier.

I personally feel that being able to study abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity, whereby I am able to gain international experience and improve my communication skills. Being far away from home, I was able to step out of my comfort zone to gain maturity and independence. It is a unique and enriching life experience that enables me to grow academically and prepare for my career as I am able to gain new perspective of the world. Therefore, I am interested in joining TSM to enhance my experience.

  • Why pick South Korea?

During my exchange days in Japan, I had the opportunity to meet international students from various countries such as South Korea, France and Cambodia. It was really interesting to interact with them. My Korean friends would always share with me how about the learning expriences in Korea. In addition, I have visted korea a few times and I really like the country very much. It is an interesting country that I would wish to explore much given a chance through this trip.

Coming from a poor family, my two elder siblings and I always had plans to set up our own business in order to break out of poverty. I hope to start a family business with my two brothers because we want to change the family’s living condition for the better. Both my brothers have diverse working experience and expertise in the business world. Together, we hope to integrate business and information systems in our family business.

Past Experiences

  • Describe your past experience (entrepreneurship, or works in start ups etc

My brother, Desmond Lim was a graduate from SMU School of Accountancy. 5 years ago, I had the opportunity to assist him in starting Treehouse café located at the School of Information Systems. The experience of managing a business with my brother ignited my entrepreneurship spirit. It was enriching as it also provides me the chance to be involved in the overall operation of a business.
