Why TSM South Korea?

What motivates you to join TSM?
Since I was young, I have been preparing myself to become an entrepreneur before the age of 30. The area of business I would want to venture into would encompass the know-how of using technology to drive businesses. I do my own research and study on how businesses operate in different countries - constantly thinking of ways to capitalize on these knowledge to break potential markets. I strongly believe that the knowledge I have acquired would benefit me greatly in the future when I step into the world of entrepreneurship. TSM presents me a very good opportunity to step out of the books I have read and the privilege of having the first hand experience with the Korean tech market and its diverse culture.

Why South Korea?
South Korea is a very unique market. Being relatively poor in terms of its natural resources, it struggled to remain competitive in the early 1960s, 1970s where commodity trading and manufacturing was driving rapid industrialization. It was not until they moved on and focused on the export industry did their growth started to pick up and subsequently, their strategy heading towards a high-tech and innovative industry made them outgrew many countries to become one of the most prominent emerging markets in the technology realm. I am very impressed with how the South Koreans managed to make such a breakthrough and at the vast amount of new creations and technologies developed in their country today.

Internship Opportunities

What types of internship opportunities interest you?

  • Business Analyst
  • Working in tech start-ups

  • Daumn (Web Service provider in Korea, like Google/Yahoo! but much smaller)

Starting a Business

What types of business interest you?

  • I really have too many to name. Although I would concentrate on my core business in the future, my personal aim as well as hobby would be to get exposed to as many industries and sectors as I possibly can.
  • Tech Service Industry. Providing consultation and platforms to drive start-ups in various industries.
  • F&B. My dream to start my own cafe/restaurant in the future.
  • E-Commerce. Many ideas going through my mind now on this.
  • Mobile App. Services related apps that would make the lives of others better.
  • Property Investor. I have a very keen interest in the property sector, particularly in residential properties. I do pay a close attention to the market movements and what is happening within the sector.
  • Design company. Web, posters, graphics, video montage for advertising companies.
  • Interior designer. I have a thing for designing houses and imagining it the way i want it to be. My first opportunity arises when I designed my own room last year and I chose the attic theme.

What plan do you have in starting a business?
My plan is to work for a few years after a graduate so that I can gain the industrial experience and save up the initial capital I need to start a company. I would try to pitch my idea to VCs to gain their backing. That would be important not only for the start up capital but also the mentoring and the connections that are made available through the VCs. Alternatively, I could consider getting funding from Spring Singapore Startup Entreprise Development Scheme.

Past Experiences

  • First experience was when I was 16, working in a start-up property agency. Learnt alot during that period about the market and how agencies operate.
  • Worked in an f&b company where I studied business processes and had to remodel/implement new initiatives.
  • Worked in a family f&b business in the procurement, manufacturing and distribution chain.
  • Was a career planner managing a group of 300 staffs at one of the government agency.
