Why TSM South Korea?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

I've always found online business and entrepreneurships that operate via technology very fascinating, since being born into an age of technological innovations. I foresee so many more opportunities to capitalize on when we do businesses using technology, such as taking advantage of transport innovations to dispel geographical limitations, mass sales promotions, etc; and I would really like an opportunity to learn these business models and tactics in this trip.

Personally, this being rather common for a girl, I enjoy shopping, and in particular, online shopping. Online retail plays a big important role during the busy periods of my life since following a stereotype, girls will feel a constant need to acquire more products even when we do not have the time to do so. Although there is a common consensus that online shopping cannot beat the feeling of physically trying and buying our own apparels, it is a convenience that I believe surpasses that fact. Akin to physically buying things, online retail therapy is also a release of stress on its own and has a certain charm. Citing an example in the upcoming Black Friday Sales, a primarily American tradition, it would not have been so popularized internationally if not for the invention of online shopping.

I believe that technology has become a key driving force in the business world, in not only online shopping, but also using the world wide web to create platforms for entrepreneur opportunities in any form. I hope to be given a chance to be a part of this learning experience.

  • Why pick South Korea?

Mainly known for their beauty products and trendy fashion, South Korea has one of the biggest online markets in the world.

I actually purchase a lot of masks as well as skin care and make up products from South Korea directly as they are not available or, are much cheaper than on the shelves of Singapore. The experience I had with South Korea's products as well as online businesses has always been positive and I am extremely impressed with their customer service, efficiency, and quality products. I hope to be able to achieve the same standard of professionalism in my own future businesses, thus I would like to learn from the best, that is South Korea.

Internship Opportunities

  • What types of internship opportunities interest you?

I have no preference, I would embrace any internship opportunity as I believe that it'd be a wonderful learning experience regardless.

  • Any ideal firms (based in South Korea) that you wishes to join?

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

I am mostly interested in companies that carry women-centered products such as apparels, accessories, products for the skin, shoes, etc. However the one that I am especially interested in would be beauty products, in the skin care sector.

  • What plan do you have in starting a business?

As I lack experience, I do not have a concrete business model yet. However, I am interested in engaging in the trading of beauty products online as I believe that in the modern society where aesthetics is placed in high importance, this industry is worth investing into. I would hope to be able to sell beauty products at an affordable price so as to encourage young girls who do not have an income to still be able to use good quality products and maintain their skin from a young age. Also, I have a passion for skincare. I believe that this would be a viable business in Singapore as the tropical climate proves to be vice for our skins are more and more Singaporeans are using such products for protection.

Conversely, I would also be interested in any other business start-up models and I am truly excited to learn about all the different types, and hopefully put it into good use in the future.

Past Experiences

  • Describe your past experience (entrepreneurship, or works in start ups etc

I regret to say that I have not had much experience in the field of entrepreneurship. I've only worked in front-line service industries as a part-time worker. This is why I am extremely keen on learning from this study mission and hopefully get some experience in the field of business.
