Why TSM Silicon Valley?

What motivates you to join TSM?

I intend to declare a second major in Advanced Business Technology under SIS next year, so this seems like the natural path for me. Then again, I most likely won't have any other opportunity to visit Silicon Valley on my own if not for this TSM, and with like-minded people.

Why pick Silicon Valley?

I'm crazy about technology startups, so Silicon Valley is like a pilgrimage for me. I've heard many stories from friends about people visiting Silicon Valley and being very inspired by new ideas there, such that they eventually set up their own companies upon returning to Singapore. I intend to do the same.

Internship Opportunities

What types of internship opportunities interest you?

I'd gladly take up an internship with any of the startups on AngelList, as long as it's a role which I can have something to contribute.

Any ideal firms (based in Silicon Valley) that you wish to join?

I'm still looking through and making my own list from the thousands of startup jobs listed on AngelList. These have caught my eye so far:


And of course, the giants like Google, eBay, Paypal and AirBnB. But I share the same sentiments as Aaron - I think they're pretty hard to get in.

Starting a business

What types of business interest you?

  • Businesses with involve technology - products with disruptive innovation, or anything in the service industry which uses technology.
  • Businesses based mostly online - No need to pay overheads, and have a global outreach via online marketing
  • Businesses employing the use of data & analytics

What plan do you have in starting a business? (list existing business)

I currently have a few ideas and I'm working to refine them, as well as looking for co-founders.

Past Experiences

Describe your past experience (entrepreneurship, or works in start ups, etc)

I've interned at a startup previously in May-June 2014 and I'm currently helping my friend out with his own startup by doing a social media marketing as well as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). No two startups are the same, and I enjoy going to work doing something different every day. I also enjoy the flexible working schedules, which really allows you to be creative and come up with much better work results at your own pace.
