Other things I did
I love to create random codes whenever they come to mind. Basically, I just love to code my ideas to prove myself that we can program also the entire universe. I have posted some of these projects and made them open source on SourceForge.net. My favourite and proudest (not that great lah but please show some love), is a "programming game" that I have posted on sourceforge.net called Mouse Run.
Why TSM Silicon Valley
My forte is in technology and Silicon Valley is one of the best place to go to learn and observe the others develop software and making it into a business and it is the epicentre of the technology world. I am expecting this educational trip to be very engaging because entrepreneurs there are very creative and they have so much that they want to prove.
Internship / Job Opportunities
I am very keen in joining a company that creates platform for others to utilise because having its own technology is very exciting.
Starting a Business
I have always enjoyed working collaboratively especially when the projects involve members from around the world, trying to achieve a common goal. That is why I love working in a consulting firm which I was an intern and a subcontractor to. But there is always a grey area within these collaboration that need to be address in order to make the collaboration more effective. Companies with very strong knowledge foundation work better. I aspire to achieve that goal. Tools like git, TFS, wikis, Google products are already available but they are not necessarily easy to use, set up or maintained.
My secondary reason for joining this course is to expose myself to peers that have the drive to excel with their business start up or ideas and learn from them as well as from Prof Ben, what keeps these passion burning until they succeed and hopefully, they inspire me to do the same.
Personal Experience
I have worked at a Tuition Centre which was relatively new back in 2008 as part of my Industrial Attachment Programme in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The tuition center used to be small but it was already employing technology to drive the business. Apart from adding features into I was the forth intern employed and I was tasked to developed an entire new system to manage student self-enrolment into classes online (very much like BOSS, and yup, the first tuition center I know doing this). I also developed a prospective student system whereby we track phone calls by non-customers for their demands and perform analysis to generate leads for business opportunities by opening classes based on their demands. I've work with them beyond my internship until my 3rd semester in SMU (with a two year break due to NS).
I've gained a lot of IT skills such as developing ASP.net with AJAX (big deal back then), communicate with MODEMS for Caller ID using AT Command etc. And what I am proud about my experience is how a small newly started tuition center, whose business is not centered around IT, is driven mainly by IT.
