Explanation

This project spans across 15 weeks starting from 04 Jan 2016 to 22 Apr 2016. The following are the critical milestones of the project:

  • 10 Jan - Project proposal submission
  • 28 Feb - Interim practicum report submission
  • 11 Apr - Final presentation (Prof. Kam)
  • 15 Apr - Final presentation (Sponsor)

This project consists of 5 iterations and for the 5th iteration, we will be presenting the project to Prof. Kam and our sponsor to mark the completion of the project.

We planned to constantly engage our project sponsor to keep them up to date on the progress of the project, get feedback from them and make sure that all the project information that we submit and expose to the public are in accordance to their guidelines.

We also planned to have a weekly meeting with our supervisor to discuss about our project progress such as clarifying concerns from our sponsor, discussing on the results of our analysis and consult on how to approach certain issues. This ensures that we stay focused and on the right track in meeting the objectives of the project.

We decided on an iterative approach due to the need for frequently repeating a set of tasks such as “Data cleaning and exploration”, “Application of analytical techniques to data set” and “Discussion on data cleaning and results of analysis” to refine our analysis. The repetition of this set of tasks allows us to have a better understanding the data, better prepare the data and apply various analytical methods, to compare and discuss our analysis and better refine our data preparation and analytical methods.

In each iteration, the member-in-charge of the tasks are rotated so that every member can have the opportunity to manage all the tasks at least once. Although the member-in-charge of the tasks are rotated every iteration, within each iteration, all members have to do all the tasks so that we could have a comparison of our analysis and discuss the way forward.

In the first iteration, the main focus is to acquire the objective and scope of the project and data from our client, conduct market research and data exploration, and formulate our project proposal. After that, we met our project sponsor to update them about our proposal and discuss any misalignment in objectives and approaches.

After receiving feedback from our project sponsor and supervisor about our project proposal, we refined our project objectives and analysis approach in the second iteration. Continued with data cleaning, analysis and discussion of the results and refine our data preparation and analysis methods. By the end of iteration 2, we expect to complete first round of analysis, collate our findings and prepare for the submission of the interim report.

In iteration 3, we expect to receive feedback from our supervisor about our interim report. We will then proceed to analyzing the feedback given and make improvement on our approach of the project.

We expect iteration 4 to be similar to iteration 2, iterating through the tasks and completing a few more rounds of analysis. We also planned to update our sponsor about our project progress thus far as well as the upcoming Final Presentation.

In iteration 5, we expect to have all the analysis done, collating all the findings and finalized all the analysis and procedures for the final presentation. We will also be preparing the project poster and storyboard of our analysis. This will allow us narrate the analytical procedures we took to meet the objective of the project. And finally, update all the documents and submission of all the project artefects.
