As one of the biggest and most recognizable VWOs in Singapore, YMCA prides itself on being the forefront of social innovation in the VWO landscape, with their programmes being fully subscribed to by organizations and individuals, and their volunteer programme being one of the most comprehensive ones in Singapore. Despite having a large reach across different target groups, YMCA has not been able to accurately identify if they have truly made an impact on their beneficiaries, or their key success factors in their programmes.

This comes at a critical milestone for YMCA, which has just passed its 115th year of service to Singapore. It is now looking in the past and to the future - how has it done so far, and where does it go from here? YMCA believes that part of the answer lies in its data of volunteers and events.

Given the project motivations and the data provided, our methodology has been split into the following:
*To measure the efficiency of all current YMCA programmes based on the number of beneficiaries served per volunteer, over time
+
• Exploratory data analysis of new volunteers over time, as well as a comparison to beneficiaries
*To map out the process flow of targeted YMCA programmes to identify bottlenecks
+
• A logistic regression model to best analyze factors that affect volunteer recruitment
2. Technical Objectives

*To identify the best beneficiary-to-volunteer ratio for each programme or sector

*To add on the existing framework that YMCA utilises to assess its programme’s impact

*To develop potential and currently non-measured variables that could help measure the impact of each programmes

Project Motivations

The VWO is primarily volunteer-run; hence it is critical for it to understand not just its present situation of volunteers, but also how it can do better in recruiting. Hence, the questions they'd like to ask are:

1. What are the new volunteer trends over time?
2. What are the factors that help or hurt volunteer recruitment?

On a personal note, all of us are Social Sciences students, and it's our way of giving back.

Data

We've received data of every programme session over 3 years, from 2015 to 2017. This added up to 1,732 sessions in total, and includes:
• Session date and time, and how long it was
• Sectors of beneficiaries that it serves: Children, Elderly, Disability
• Programmes
• Number of volunteers
• Existing or New volunteers
• Where they were recruited from: Public or School
• Total beneficiaries

Methodology

Given the project motivations and the data provided, our methodology has been split into the following:
• Exploratory data analysis of new volunteers over time, as well as a comparison to beneficiaries
• A logistic regression model to best analyze factors that affect volunteer recruitment
