"This practicum module has been a fruitful one as I got to learn and experience working with different individuals with diverse background knowledge from different faculties. Through this module, we got to experience working with real client’s data and real problems faced in the working industry. Knowing that companies are facing problems with simple things such as not having a proper data collection process was really an eye opener for me as it plays a crucial role for future analytical work to be done. We also got to experience analysing the dataset using the JMP software that was previously not introduced to us during the Analytics Foundation course. Through this course, I learnt how to better represent our data with graphs such as heatmaps and treemaps, tips on how to carry out an executive presentation well and also to segregate and plan my time well for other course modules as well. It was a great experience overall as I have learnt a lot through the mentor sessions and proper guidance from Prof Kam, as well as from my teammates as we progress along through these 16 weeks." |

"This practicum project exposed me to JMP, a very user-friendly and powerful EDA tool, as well as methods that I had not previously heard about such as RFM. There was a lot of self-learning involved, and the research process of reading current academic journals and experimenting with different functions of the software were very rewarding. I also learnt a lot about project management, and how to best utilise the different strengths of each team member. Finally, I also learned more about how to keep the business case in mind while doing the analysis and the importance of selecting what and how to communicate the key findings that would be relevant to the client." |

"Through this practicum, I have learnt and benefited in several aspects. I was given the opportunity to deal with real-life big data. It allowed me to gain direct exposure to actual data collected by business and to perform data analytics work on it, from data preparation and exploration to the eventual data analysis and recommendation phase. It was a rewarding journey as this enabled us as students to apply what we have learnt in class to reality, servicing actual client and making real recommendations to improve our client’s business in different ways. The process also allowed us to hone our analytics skills, as it highlighted the different areas that we still need to work on in order to further prepare us for the working world and to make effective contribution. In addition, I was able to better see and appreciate the advantages and benefits that data analytics is able to bring to the table in the various fields and disciplines. This has intensified my interest in data analytics, and I look forward to learning even more in the future and doing my part in this field." |
