Problem & Motivation

St. Himark's Always Safe nuclear power plant was built to meet the region's power needs. Though built as a primary source of power, Always Safe was not compliant to recommended safety standards established by the international community. To ensure its operations were within safe levels, Always Safe funded the construction of 9 carefully calibrated professional radiation sensors around the region to monitor the region's radiation levels. As part of its community outreach efforts, Always Safe also equipped a group of citizen scientists with lower cost homemade sensors. Attached to cars of citizen scientists, these mobile sensors recorded radiation levels of areas that citizens travelled to.

With the recent earthquake that struck St. Himark, the nuclear power plant sustained structural damages which led to leaks of radioactive contaminants. Using data collected from both static and mobile radiation sensors, the city's government seeks to understand the distribution of radiation levels across the city. Hence, there is a need to construct an interactive visualisation tool to help city officials identify regions with alarming levels of radiation.

The interactive visualisation will be segmented according to the following categories:

  • Category 1
  • Category 2
