Welcome to comments :)
Hi Xiaoqing,
Nice work and it is clear to show conclusion in table format. However, I also have following considerations.
- Does the horizon graph in question 1 have removed those multiple records already? Or the difference from median may be due to multiple records?
- Would it be more reasonable if using box-plot instead of sum of the reading for finding release pattern of each chemical in question 2?
- Would it make more sense if the triangles in question 3 are related to four factories?
Thanks,
Jean
Hi Xiaoqing,
I would like to congratulate for your good and hard work.
Below are some of my comments you can look into:
- you have done a brilliant work on the wind fan. What i can suggest is that, it would have been really
great if you could represent the wind fan also with the intensity of the readings they are capturing and color it.
- Another suggestion is that you can incorporate average reading in your release pattern graph.
- you can may be include colors in the box plot so as to distinguish between various chemicals and make the point larger so that the points
in the box plot will be clearer.
P.S you have done a good job, keep up the good work!
Thanks & Regards,
Debasish Behera
Hi Xiaoqing,
Great work. The analysis is very detailed.
Here are my suggestions to improve the visual analytics :
Clarity
- Could the Horizon Plot be adjusted to reduce the height of the outliers? My understanding of horizon plots is that they should allow us to show fluctuations without taking up too much space
- In Question 2-2, 3 months are displayed but the hour scale is much larger for December. This makes comparison difficult between months.
Aesthetics
- In question 1 - Findings the chemical reading graph is very small and hard to read. Could it be enlarged or filtered?
- In question 2 the Box Plots are too small and not easy to read. Could they be enlarged and the font be increased?
All the best,
David Ten Kao Yuan
Hi Xiaoqing,
First of all, great job on this mini-challenge. All questions are clearly covered in your work.
My cents on the clarity part.
Clarity:
Referring to your dashboard, the worksheet is readable and understandable.
It may still have the room for improvement in checking the unexcepted behaviors using the horizon graph. like making the patterns you try to highlight more clearly to identify?
Same rules could be applied to those lines charts
All the best.

Hi Xiaoqing,
Good job on your answer!
Here are some comments:
Clarity
- For the pictures for Findings 1, 2, and 3, they are a little bit hard to see. I thought it might be better if you use horizon charts for them instead. That will allow us to get a better sense of scale.
- For the chemical release line graphs, I thought it might be better if you could show the labels for Maximum and Minimum scores, as well as adding a few reference drop lines that highlight them. This will give the viewer a better sense of comparison. The same comment could also be applied to the other line charts under release pattern.
Aesthetics
- Finally, the alpha value i.e. the transparency of the wind plots could be lower, so that the are covered by the overlap between the different wind plots can be observed clearly.
Thank you Vincent Mack
