Project Overview

1.1 Project Description

SCDF is currently facing high attrition and under usage of the myResponder mobile application among Singaporeans. The lack of active users significantly reduces the capabilities of the application in assembling the Singapore population to respond to emergency cases such as Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) and minor fires in a timely manner that significantly increases the OCHA victim’s chances of survival and mitigate the fires.

myResponder is an application by SCDF to alert members of the public to nearby fire and medical cases, and thereby save lives and increase the survival rate for OHCA, as well as mitigate minor fires in the first few critical minutes. myResponder is also a means by which members of the public may be asked to provide onsite information (via submission of photos and videos) for SCDF to gain an understanding of the situation. Through the ‘Call 995’ button in the app, users can also send their geolocation to SCDF’s 995 Operations Centre, enabling SCDF to dispatch the emergency resources to the scene sooner.

Currently, the two main problems identified are community engagement and triaging problems. This project aims to build a community platform within myResponder app to reduce the attrition rate. The project would draw inspiration from gamification features and social media feeds to achieve this aim. As for triaging problems, we intend to resolve this via a prompt to help users decide when they should call 995.

Ultimately, our aim is to increase the number of active users and improve long-term engagement with users through the app. Our X-Factor that our team is aiming for is 100 satisfied users. After integration, we plan to achieve a 20% increase in real users and retention rate.
