Project Overview
1.1 Project Description
Students live in a connected world of data today, and education has not fully adapted to this reality and captured the opportunities in integrating data to create fun and engaging curriculums. This is despite integration of ICT in classrooms being a major goal of MOE. This project aims to empower students and teachers by incorporating data literacy in education and pedagogy, encouraging participation for a smarter world. Our product concept is a series of games to impart specific analytics skills weaved into MOE’s regular curriculum.

1.3 Deliverables
Outcomes
Prototype and documentation, PowerPoint presentation, Report, Working Application
Value Statement
Incorporating data literacy in education and pedagogy, getting students to be ready for an increasingly data-driven world and to be productive citizens in our Smart Nation effort
Product
Our product concept is a series of games to impart specific analytics skills weaved into MOE’s regular
curriculum.
The end product ideally involves a web platform that contains these games, and a customized curriculum
created by us that leverages upon MOE’s current curriculum to further strengthen the analytical concepts
taught in the games.
The web platform will be developed for laptops/desktops.
Analytics
We do intend to incorporate different kinds of analytical skills within the platform.
However, for the prototype, we will be working with geospatial and social dynamics related data and
analytics:
- Data used will be mostly open data from data.gov, so that students are familiar with some common
datasets for Singapore
- Analytics concepts used will include buffering, accessibility mapping and optimisation of resources
(housing, facilities, etc) within finite spaces
Audience
This project aims to empower both students and teachers by incorporating data literacy in education and
pedagogy, encouraging participation for a smarter world.
All students (even beyond Singapore) that are interested in data analytics will be able to access our web
platform and attempt our games ( out-of-class use ). The estimated number of students contributing to user
tests is around 100 (3 classes of Geography students) and number of teachers estimated to be 3.
However, our customized curriculum will be accessible to teachers and schools that intend to use our web
platform as an in-class learning tool for primarily Geography and Social Studies lessons. Eventually,
other subject areas (such as English) should also be able to use our platform to embed analytics concepts
into lessons (analysing social issues, sentiments) although this is out of scope for this project.
