Jeffrey Ng Si Wei's Reflections

Planning Phase

During the planning phase, I learned the importance of juggling the requirements of the module set out by the professors as well as building a good relationship with my project sponsor, Masami Sato. I sensed the joy of delivering a useful product with the opportunity to work with her. While numerous planning and documentations have to be set in place, I enjoyed it as I find it meaningful to help my team members understand how fragments of ideas add up into a story flow by creating mind-maps.

Journey towards Acceptance

During this phase, I got a better sense of the strengths and weaknesses of my fellow team members. It gave me good opportunities to learn from them as well as room to guide and share using my past experiences. The end goal I have in mind is to learn and move together as a team during the various phases of the project. I also enjoyed the period where I did independent learning in the area of Android mobile application development. I referenced resources from libraries, the web, and of course programming and testing it all out.

Journey towards Mid-term

This journey has been a tough one especially when deadlines of all other module projects clashed with my time committed to carry out development work. It challenged me to time manage, update my Project Manager of the duration I could commit to complete tasks. When team conflict arose, I was however glad that we recognized the root of the argument and finally resolved matters by finding out where each one of us are coming from through means of physical meetings. I was also challenged in my work when leading the role of functional development especially when our sponsor made adjustments to project requirements. I adapted by speaking with my team members, reviewing the scope that we have planned for our Acceptance phase, identifying our limits, and knowing our capability to deliver the final product to our project sponsor.

Journey towards Finale

Michael Jordan once said: "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." This quote greatly inspired me throughout this semester and while working with my team for our IS480 application project.

The learning journey has truly sparked my interest in Android mobile application development and I have gained valuable insights on what goes behind project management and stakeholders management. I am glad I had the opportunity to learn continuously while working alongside with my team mates. They have been an awesome bunch! Though we have experienced conflicts and miscommunication, I saw them as opportunities for team growth and mutual understanding. With the remaining days left for final presentation and examinations preparation, I look forward to share my team's fruits of labor and our experiences with our stakeholders and friends!
