Gender Recognition Parameters

1. Shoulder & Hip Width

Given approximately the same height and weight,

  • Males’ shoulders averaged 3.6cm broader than those of females
  • Females’ hips averaged 0.7cm broader than those of males

2. Center of moment

Center of moment.png

Center of moment (Cm) is approximately the intersection of the two stress lines across the diagonals of the torso i.e. from the end of one's left shoulder to the end of one's right hip & from from the end of one's right shoulder to the end of one's left hip

Cm = shoulder width / (shoulder width + hip width)

Because males’ thighs are generally less massive than female ones & females’ hips are larger than male ones,

  • Males’ center of moment are slightly higher than female ones. 2
  • Cm for males: 0.56 - 0.57, Cm for females: 0.50 - 0.51 3
