Why TSM South Korea

What motivates you to join TSM?

After attending a Business and Cultural Study Mission to Beijing & Shenzen organised by SMU last year, I had the opportunity to visit many companies across various industries. Three companies in particular struck my interest - Lenovo , Huawei and Cheku Cafe. The company visits to Lenovo and Huawei were extremely impressive. We were able to learn about how these Chinese corporations are able to compete on a global level and remain extremely successful. As I am currently on exchange in Europe, I was pleasantly surprised by the multiple Huawei products used in Musuems in across Europe, such as in Barcelona and Prague. This clearly shows the immense potential of technology companies especially in the 21st century. Technology related businesses are able to transcend borders and tap international markets, unlike most traditional business models. Hence I strongly believe that working in the technological industry is key of the future.

After my visit to Cheku Cafe, a start-up incubation cafe in Beijing, I was drawn towards the idea of starting up my own business rather than simply working in a company upon graduation. Hence potentially, I hope to be able to start up an online business of my own.

Therefore, I am very interested in joining TSM Korea as I believe that I will be able to learn a lot about both the Technological industry and start-ups in South Korea.

Why pick South Korea?

Having been to South Korea last summer, I was very impressed at their technological systems. It is widely known that South Korea is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of its technological industry. Similarly, China too is a large player in the market. Hence I am very interested in learning about the differences in China & Korea in this industry. I would also love to learn about the difficulties that foreigners face when starting up a business in South Korea, given the language barriers as well as other cultural factors.

Internship Opportunities

What types of internship opportunities interest you?

As an economics and finance student, business development and finance roles would allow me to best contribute to the company as an intern. However, I am very interested in joining the operational department as well.

  • Web-Search Engines
    • E.g. Daum & Naver
  • Multinational Technological Companies
    • E.g. Samsung &
  • Gaming Industry Companies
    • E.g. Gravity , Nexon , and Kakao
      • I have a strong interest in the Korean Gaming Industry as I have played many games produced by South Korean Gaming corporations - such as Ragnarok and Rose by Gravity. Moreover it is widely known that Korea has a strong presence in the gaming industry. This includes mobile games by Kakao.

Starting a Business

What types of business interest you?

I am interested in starting a business related to technology - such as online service providers or in the gaming realm.

What plan do you have in starting a business?

I hope to be able to work in a company related to the business I plan to start up a few years before I start my business.

Past Experiences

I have multiple experiences in the social entreprenuership realm. I have previously won awards in Youth For Causes, a social entrepreneurship competition. I have also organised and conducted a business plan competition in India , and provided seed-funding for the winners of the competition. In terms of technological entrepreneurship experience, I have previously started an online website that is similar to the business model of Hungrygowhere.
