Why TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?
A book, my dream, and an opportunity. These are the three factors which encompass my motivations to join TSM.

As an avid reader with an undying passion towards the field of medicine, I have read many books relating to medicine and there is one such book which inspired greatly - Epic measures by Jeremy N. smith. It centres around how technology and data play an integral role in the medical landscape today and what catastrophe would result in the absence of it. Ever since, bootstrapping a tech start-up which would provide timely service to the medical field is what I have been working towards. I have always tried to learn and up-skill myself beyond the boundaries of our seminar rooms but have not been able to do so. However now that there is this huge OPPORTUNITY, which would enable me to understand the fundamentals behind business ventures, how technology and innovation can be harnessed not only to increase productivity and quality of products and services but also to expand our consumer base. Rearing a tech-start-up is one thing but to thrive, utilise and adapt to the ecosystem of different countries and cultures is another.

Hence, I view this TSM as an opportunity for me to learn about how technopreneurship works, how to thrive in such ecosystems and in doing so, gain valuable insights into cultural differences and how different entrepreneurs around the world use technology differently to tackle the same problems would be something I would never be able to get elsewhere. Therefore, I am thrilled and excited to be part of AY 2021/22 T1 TSM and I am looking forward to it.

  • What types of business interest you?
My motivations for TSM include going beyond the boundaries of geographical constraints as I am a firm believer that learning blossoms anywhere. I am interested to venture into any given country as I view venturing into each country to be a new learning opportunity,

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Personally, I am drawn to companies that focus on utilising technology to identify and solve problems through innovation instead of being fuelled by the pursuit for monetary gains. Such companies under the Australian start-up ecosystems are Vaxxas, Global Kinetix Corporation, Bionic Vision Technologies and the list goes on. These companies are everything I believe in, and I respect them very much for how successful they have become in incorporating technological innovations to solve medical problems. A plethora of learning awaits behind the shadows of every startup company and I am enthralled to finally start working towards my dream.

  • What plan do you have in starting a business?

MedTech Company
As a person who is passionate in both technology and medicine, I would like to start up a business where technological innovations are utilised to provide affordable medical service to the needy creating ripples in the medical landscape. Going beyond medicine, I also have a plan to expand into other sectors but with the backbone of technology and a vision of helping people. I have a close friend with similar interests, and we are planning to start this vision of ours once we graduate from SMU. To kickstart this, we have already founded a non-profit organisation called Nex-Gen-Change which aims to collate the problems faced by people of different cultures and places, and brainstorm how we can solve these problems using innovation and technology. I believe that this platform will really enable me to form connections and learn leaps and bounds which I can then apply in my business venture.

Past Experiences (optional)

We have started this non-profit organisation to understand the needs of different people from diverse demographics and to provide technological solutions by collaborating with people in different countries so as to effect a change in our next generation. Amongst the 17 UN Sustainability Development Goals, we have started by tackling the issue of education by building a framework to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all amidst the major disruption COVID-19 has caused us.
I have a self-initiated medical research website which aims to provide medical facts and information on how natural remedies can be as effective as medical drugs. It also features easy prevention methods for various medical conditions. The aim of this website is to utilise technology to bring facts and medical advice to those who need it easily, as well as to collaborate between medicine practitioners and researchers with like-minded goals.
As a leader of a SMU based community service project, we are working on solving the issue of food wastage with all SMU Offices and students. We are also working on building telegram bots using AWS servers to effectively reduce wastage of food.
The Clean Tech BioMedical Innovation Competition is a unique, worldwide research and design challenge. It addresses an issue that is grounded in core technological competency areas and focuses on the next great engineering challenges. Through spearheading the project, I was able to put scientific understanding of real-world issues and integrate them into environmentally responsible energy sources. The competition provided me an opportunity to foster a deeper understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related concepts.
  • [LTA Engineering Challenge] (Semi- Finalist)
The LTA Engineering Challenge allowed my team and me to use creativity, innovation and engineering skills to devise an attractive and robust land transport network.
  • Tuition Start-up (Founder)
I also have a tuition start-up which focuses on giving quality education to students with special needs for free. It has been successful and has expanded exponentially over the past 3 years with a total size of more than 50 students as of now.

What keeps you ticking?

  • Learn to apply, apply to effect change
Learning more and more about the world, and reflecting on our learnings allow us to apply our knowledge into beautiful solutions that effect an indescribable relief to one’s life. Is there a better ticking factor in the world?
  • " Facing a problem and need an effective solution?"
“I am here for you”, said technology
“I will bring you to people effectively”, said business
silently laughed technopreneurship 🤪
