Why TSM New York City?
- What motivates you to join TSM?
In terms of entrepreneurship, TSM is a perfect opportunity to explore outside the boundaries of Singapore, make new friends and get a different perspective on how the other side of the world runs.
- Why pick New York City?
New York is in a particular position where it's advantage is its concentration of people in other industries working on problems that require technology to solve. With the aid of huge venture-capital investment, flocks of local startups are seen flying into the city. Unlike advanced cities like Silicon Valley or South Korea which focuses on the next superfast sillion chip or advanced systems, New York tech industry tackles problems that every simpleton faces in their daily lives through simple but elegant solutions.
Starting a business
- What types of business interest you?
Technology that solves problems overlooked, primarily software, cloud or machine learning.
- What plan do you have in starting a business? (list existing business)
As aGoogle DSC Lead, I am always looking out for problems to solve be it non-profit or profit-generating solutions, which helps to build a start-up mentality. Coupled with my numerous achievements from Hackathon has grown on me the ability to overcome problems from tackling it from multiple angles and not just from a single point.
My previous business (Fragments Pte Ltd) is to provide a smooth process for SMEs to tap onto Spring Singapore grants while developing basic info websites for them. SMEs are only required to request what they would like their website to look like and provide the relevant details for us to file for approval for a grant from Spring Singapore. We will then use WordPress templates to set up a simple structure and fill in the data for the company. The whole process could be done within a day.
Past Experiences
I was recently chosen from a pool of 200 potential candidates within Singapore to be a Google DSC Lead. Being a DSC Lead provides me with the opportunity to tackle social issues among Singapore's community which are recongise by Google. Searching for the problems, target audience and solution is like a mini startup for every project as a Google DSC Lead.

The satisfaction of witnessing my efforts being paid off from solving a challenging coding problem, teaching freshmen their first programming language or the moments I have with my friends as we spend countless nights together. The smiles and laughter only drive me more to achieve new heights in my journey even though I foreseen numerous challenges. Fail Fast, Fail Often, Fail Now.
