Why TSM New York City?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?
I have always had an interest in doing my own technology startup, having dabbled, with various batchmates and seniors, algorithms and models in both the cybersecurity and finance domains. A TSM would give me greater insights into how to properly construct a technology startup, learning about potential pitfalls and industry best practices.
I also hope to be able to contribute my experiences in full-stack DevOps across different technologies, such as Blockchain, Cybersecurity and Machine Learning, and my experiences with entrepreneurship (structuring equity splits, market research and validation etc) with fellow TSM participants. Additionally, I would like to learn from their diverse experiences and learning habits too.
  • Why pick New York City?
As I would be working in the Finance industry upon graduation, New York is a huge eye-opener for me. Being at the forefront of all things finance, a TSM to New York will better enable me to understand the intersection of finance and technology. This would develop my domain understanding and allow me to contribute better value in my line of work.

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?
Algorithmic solutions to real world problems, such as dynamic intrusion detection or investment management.
  • What plan do you have in starting a business?
I have been roped into an underground startup with some senior employees from top-tier investment bank(s). Additionally, I am also exploring the possibility of a cybersecurity startup with some batchmates.
No matter my career trajectory, I do see myself founding or joining a tech startup and getting my hands dirty.

Past Experiences (optional)

  • I have been featured by SMU on 5 occasions (DSTA Hackerfest,Interview with IIE,International Quant Championships,Kaspersky Secur'IT Cup 2nd,Represented Singapore for IQC Global Finals), and was also featured in SMU IIE's newsletter for winning 2nd Place in the DNB Digital Challenge at Norway. In total, I have won 8 competitions since Year 3. I also led community service project Project Midori 2, which gained a mention in the Dean of Student's Welcome Message for Academic Year 2019-2020.

I have previously interned at CSA's Penetration Testing team, led BMW's Blockchain Engineering and worked at JPMorgan Chase's Front Office Technology team. I have worked with DSTA for Computer Vision and NRF for Cyber Security Analytics. I have also spoken at various technical conferences such as HITB GSEC and Blockchain Forensics Summit across Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, given lectures at SMU (IS445 module), NTU (Blockchain@NTU lecture) and NYP (ITC222 module) and conducted workshops for Data Science Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law.

Prior to Year 3, I was involved in an apparel e-commerce, where I handled sales and operations, and an e-sports startup, where I worked in software engineering.

What keeps you ticking?

  • I want to be the best version of myself I can be, and bring out the best in others.
