Why TSM Silicon Valley

What motivates me to join this study mission?

• I have interned at two startups so far, one being an fintech and the other being an online travel and advertising portal. The idea of being able to build an idea up from almost-nothing appeals to me and I think entrepreneurship has a lot of power to change everything about the world we live it – and I want to learn more!
  
• I plan to start my own business in the future relating to technoreneurship
  
• Visiting the companies in Silicon Valley would be even more meaningful because my peers and I get to learn from the best. I also hope that it doesn’t stop there and I am able to come back to Singapore and apply what I learn to either school or wherever it is I end up working or perhaps even something new I can create (like a new business)
  

Why pick Silicon Valley?

• Anyone who aspires to achieve success in their business ventures would aspire to be like the firms located in Silicon Valley. From Google and Apple to SurveyMonkey and Lucasfilm, these are names that have changed the every day lives of individuals all around the world. I want to learn more about their day-to-day operations for success and also more about the passion and drive from the insiders.
  

Ideal role in the trip: Itinerary planning, booking of accommodation/flights and other logistics, content creation in terms of ideas/questions we would like to bring up while there, presenting at Silicon Valley itself about us, plan pre-trip learning for my peers and I to prep for the trip

Internship: I would be more than happy to accept internship opportunities!

What plan do you have in starting a business?

• I have ideas in starting a tutor business, fintech and for a social cause (more specifically pertaining to sustainability) but am still looking for a good business partner and also doing a lot more market research before embarking on anything.
  

Past Experiences

Entrepreneurship

• Went to Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) to do research on Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
  
• Experience in Research, currently a Research Assistant for a PhD student in SMU (examining investors’ reactions to firms’ pre-announcements of price changes)
  
• Interned at 2 startups, a fintech called Kashmi and an online travel magazine advertising firm called Tripzilla, both as a marketing intern.
  
• Vice President of the Social Startup Challenge 2018

Tech

• In the past I created a game app, however as I have limited knowledge on the programming front, it was incomplete. I would love to learn through a proper medium that is why I intend to take up Information Systems as my second major. It is a very practical skill to acquire.
  

Planning

• Events planned: Animal Day 2017, Events organized by Kashmi, Harvard College in Asia Programme, SMU Social Startup Challenge, OCSP to Batam, BSM to Scandinavia (planning for the company trips)
  

What keeps you ticking?

• Travel: Having experienced and interacted with the owners of the business and startups in Scandinavia, I hope to continue learning from places like the USA as well. Furthermore, US is a land of endless opportunities!
