Ever since I chanced upon the concept of Ikigai, I've been amazed at how mature the Japan culture is. Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being". The word refers to having a direction or purpose in life, that which makes one's life worthwhile, and towards which an individual takes spontaneous and willing actions giving them satisfaction and a sense of meaning to life. To me, this is how I started my journey to discover myself and understanding what I want to do in life.

Japan is known for their extensive creativity of their work. From anime to being at the forefront of robotics to exoskeletons, Singapore has a long way to go. Personally, this befalls on Japan's culture of being highly responsible and driven. Their will for their craft and love in the work they do and their patriotism inspires me to continuously innovate too.

One well known example would be Fujifilm. Fujifilm's continuous breakthrough to revive the old and bring in new concepts to their products shows us that for products which may have been overtaken by further technological advances still have a place to stay. The battle spirit is commendable and one that most Singaporean firms should learn from especially in times of Covid. However, it is not just their culture and technology which inspires me. Why Virtual TSM?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

TSM is a great opportunity to explore, make friends and get real world experience in terms of entrepreneurship, even if it's virtual.

  • Where would you like to visit virtually? Japan

It is solely up to us to redefine its purpose and to stay relevant as we progress towards the future. Just last year, Fujifilm announced that it is re-entering the black-and-white film market after stopping production more than a year ago.

The battle spirit is commendable and one that most Singaporean firms should learn from especially in times of Covid. However, it is not just their culture and technology which inspires me. Japan's rich history, sakura blossoms, world heritage centres and national parks are areas Singapore does not possess, but one which we should try to embody in our own life experience and future entrepreneurial adventures.

Starting a business

  • What types of business interest you?

Anything that revolves around Technology really, but primarily cybersecurity or analytics.

  • What plan do you have in starting a business? (list existing business)

Before coming into University, I participated in ICE71 Cybersecurity Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. My idea revolved around automating the process of helping SMEs get around with the PDPA regulation without the need to train, retrain employees to save cost while abiding by the new regulation. I presented to a board of Directors and was given an opportunity to expand my idea, however, as I was more inclined to focus my time on school, I kindly declined.

Since then, I have participated in many hackathons to keep the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit burning, to constantly innovate and think out of the box.

Also, I have a tiny instagram shop selling some of my semi-precious gemstones but I have not been updating it since army :) https://www.instagram.com/krxpire/
