I previously had a job attachment with Cathay Pacific to promote Asia Miles, their frequent flyer programme to passengers by explaining the rewards and sign-up procedure, using different languages, English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Duing the process, I developed interpersonal skills by approaching different kinds of passengers at the Cathay Pacific check-in counter, generating 88 sign-ups for Asia Miles in a week. It was truly refreshing experience!

Why TSM Hong Kong?

  • What motivates you to join TSM?

This golden opportunity of interaction with business professionals allows me to learn directly from the experts, the way they work and how did they leverage on technology to translate their business ideas into success. Such practical and hands-on experiences cannot be taught through textbooks. As an Operations Management major, I hope to be able to draw out key points from my experience through exploring how the business people in Hong Kong handle processes and share my insights and new-found knowledge with my future classmates in following modules as well as my future internships and jobs.

  • Why pick Hong Kong?

Hong Kong's thriving start-up sector coupled with their booming technology innovation industry creates a conducive business strategic platform globally and regionally. These can be observed from their applications in smart cities and smart homes. Such an environment can also be observed in Singapore. In fact, both countries are part of the 4 Asian Tigers. I would like to observe, from a technology advancement perspective, the similarities and differences between Singapore and Hong Kong and how we can learn from Hong Kong's strengths and learn from their experiences given the ever-changing technological landscape.

On a personal note, given that I can speak Cantonese motivates me to choose Hong Kong as I can interact in Cantonese using business terms. This widens my opportunities in future to interact with people of different backgrounds in a highly globalised world.

Starting a business

  • What types of businesses interest you?

Ecommerce, Supply Chain, App Development

  • What plan do you have in starting a business?

Together with a group of 4 other members, I have applied for an Entrepreneurship Practicum with a business proposal to digitalize name cards. We are still in the process of awaiting our proposal approval and hopefully embark on the first phase of our business plan with the funds that we are sponsored with.

Past Experiences (optional)
