Why TSM South Korea?
What motivates you to join TSM?
I believe that TSM will be able to enrich my life through the experiences it can offer me. TSM will also be able to open more opportunities for someone like me, who is interested in building an online-based business.
Why pick South Korea?
South Korea is one of the better countries to start a business, according to Forbes' list of best countries to start a business. Additionally, I know countless brands/companies which are based in South Korea. I also use most of their products. Hence, I would like to know more about these companies not just by browsing through their website, but by actually visiting their headquarters.
Internship Opportunities
What types of internship opportunities interest you?
Internship opportunities in these industries greatly interest me:
1. Retail-IT industry. Why?
I have past experiences working in such an industry. Hence, I would like to know how it works in Korea.
2. Electronics industry. Why?
This is due to the fact that I have heard so much about brands like Samsung & LG. Thus, I would love to work in such a competitive industry in Korea.
3. Cosmetics industry. Why?
I use many cosmetics products from Korea and I believe that this is one of their growing industries.
Any ideal firms (based in South Korea) that you wishes to join?
Samsung, LG, Hyundai, Lotte, SMEs & startups
Starting a Business
What types of business interest you?
I am extremely interested in online shopping businesses because most of the time, I shop online. I also have some experience in running an online retail business and hence, would like to learn more in this area.
What plan do you have in starting a business?
During my first summer in SMU, I started an online facebook page and marketed it through facebook groups vigorously. I sold ladies' apparels such as bags and clothes. During the beginning, I only took pre-order sales. After 3 months, many customers already knew me and wanted to purchase instocks instead. So I started bringing in instocks. However, due to school commitments and lack of manpower, I stopped taking in orders in early 2014.
Therefore, about 5 years after I graduate, I plan to run such an online business(again).
Past Experiences
Describe your past experience (entrepreneurship, or works in start ups etc)
As mentioned in the previous section, during my first summer in SMU, I started an online facebook page and sold ladies' apparels such as bags and clothes. It was a really tiring, yet eye-opening experience for me as I learnt a lot about customer relationship, logistics and marketing.
Additionally, I interned at Mummytoon, a Singapore-based SME, as an IT intern. I was responsible for maintaining a few websites built on Joomla. I also created and deployed a multilingual website, SUPPORi. Now, I work part-time with them. I am happy to do so as I can gain more experience in this area.
Currently, I am also the web designer for my final year project team(Viva La Vida). We are in charge of developing 2 web applications and 1 mobile application as well as ensuring that the integration between these 3 applications are seamless. Do visit our project's webs application, Rentafi.
