Why Virtual TSM?

What motivates you to join TSM?

I’d like to get a perspective of how tech businesses, especially start-ups, are conducted overseas. The Dos and Don’ts, how does one penetrate the market efficiently, navigate around cultural barriers but more importantly, how do they create value for their customers.

Where would you like to visit virtually?

  1. Czechia, Prague (Prusa Research – 3D Printing Company, our school’s Makerspace production monsters were from this company)
  2. Germany (Bosch IoT Campus [Berlin] – Their IoT Suite is something worth exploring and developing upon) (Mann und Hummel [Ludwigsburg]) – Homegrown company that deals with filtration, something that I believe that is much needed in SG [Town area, that is])
  3. Shenzhen, China
  4. Silicon Valley (Too many to name)
  5. Netherlands (Blender Institute, Amsterdam - Develops Blender, a fully open-source 3D Animation Cum Modelling software that rivals competitors that charge over SGD3000 a year, need I say more?)

Starting a business

What types of business interest you?

Although I am not averse to any type of tech-related business, I would especially like to know businesses that deal with IoT related ventures. I’m also a big fan of commercial 3D Printing companies or electrical automotive start-ups.

What plan do you have in starting a business?

In the near future, I intend to partner with a friend of mine to start one that delivers customised IoT solutions for small brick and mortar businesses. At the same time, we intend to run a community-driven co-creation DIY space which will not only serve as our production and R&D facility but also be open for anyone to use for their own projects (for a small fee of course).

Past Experiences (optional)

  • Smart Nation Platform Solution Intern at GovTech Singapore

Provided Geospatial support, 3D Modelling, Data Mining and Video editing services for internal projects.

  • UIUX Designer at Allied Container Group

Evaluated the strengths and pitfall of their pre-existing container management systems user interface, then worked in tandem with the in-house programmer to create a working prototype

  • SMU-X MakerSpace Trainer

Conduct 3D Printing Workshops, while ensuring serviceability of the space and the 3D Printers

Conducting a 3D Printing 101 Workshop (Pre-Covid)

What keeps you ticking?

  • The constant pursuit of new, yet affordable innovations that the general layman could afford and use it to enrich his/her lives. (Think DIY 3D Printers, ESP32s/Pis and the open-source movement for both hardware and software [Reprap|Blender|etc])
