THE MOTIVATION

Everything but our salary is getting higher! With prices and costs getting more expensive but our wallets getting smaller, it is necessary for us to source for additional source of income. Investment definitely comes to mind when mention about sourcing a secondary income source, but without prior financial knowledge, it is daunting to average people.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Many investors look into charts to understand the patterns and profitability of the stocks and markets. The price movements of the charts tell the investors a story of how the company/stock has been performing. Stock prices are also affected by news and there are news that have more adverse effects than others. The system will give users such knowledge through exploration of time series price chart and price reaction patterns observed from official news release.

Chart reading and deriving information out of it is no easy feat, especially so when that charts provide will focus mainly on their core clientele base - institutional investors and full time traders. The following is a screenshot of what a user when using Bloomberg's terminal to query information of a stock.

Is it easy and suitable for average retail investors with a full time job that can only perform stock market analysis on their spare time?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Objective

Considering that most investors actually do have a full time job and will not be able to dedicate much time into researching for their investment, the aim of our project is:
To build a dashboard that allows average investors to derive information they would require for their investment needs quickly. In order to avoid the pitfalls of over-cluttering and over-feeding them with information, we looked into the Technical Analysis to derive some key features that our applications need to provide.

  • What is the stock price of the company?
  • Derive the trend of stock prices for companies and industries
  • Derive the overall health of the investment market (NASDAQ)
  • How is a particular stock performing relative to its corresponding market average?
  • What are some important news of the company and when it is announced?
  • Derive insights and keep track of news with the movement of the portfolio.
