Thye Hua Kuan Moral Charities (THKMC), established in October 2011 is the charity arm of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society. With its mission “To serve mankind”, THKMC provides assistance to the various groups in our community through more than 60 programmes and services for the elderly and the sick, families, persons with disabilities, and children.

Our project focuses on their Medical Escort Transport (MET) service, which aims to transport homebound elders who are unable to attend medical appointments/treatments on their own and have no suitable or available caregiver to take them to their medical appointment/treatments. Despite being a meaningful initiative, the MET service currently faces profitability issues. Our project hopes to pinpoint the cause of the problem, and improve its efficiency so as to allow them to gain healthy surpluses.

=== Current Problem ===

The Medical Escort Transport (MET) service faces profitability issue. The costs of transport service is higher than expected, thus affecting the profitability of this service. Thus THKMC requires the team to analyze their cost structure and pinpoint where the inefficiency lies. After which, the team can formulate an ideal strategy to bring back healthy surpluses to THKMC.

Lack of data analysis: THKMC had invested in sensors on their vehicles but currently lack utilization of the data as they have yet to establish a dedicated team to analyze on it.

The aging population and rising burden of chronic diseases have transformed the way our healthcare industry is. Care should be brought closer to the patients. The team recognizes the significance of the Medical Escort and Transport Services (MET), which is targeted towards homebound clients who are unable to travel to medical appointments/treatments independently and have no suitable caregiver to take them to medical appointments/treatments. In hopes to make a positive impact on the aging community, our group has a genuine interest to take on this project. Through this project, we hope to put what we have learned into practice and further improve ourselves through the valuable feedbacks and guidance received.

Introduction

The Medical Escort and Transport Services (MET) by a charity organisation in Singapore, provides escort and/or transport to enable PNCs to remain in the community as long as possible. Services are provided to ferry the PNCs to their medical appointments at the respective clinics. Despite government subsidies provided, the MET remains financially unsustainable. Thus, we will identify areas of inefficiencies to reduce cost, without compromising on the quality of service provided. Although the client is a charity organisation, the team will tackle this problem from a business perspective, generating insights for our client to make more informed choices.

Project Motivation

Silver Daisies
