Observations |
---|
Overall Statistics - Undergraduates Upon selecting the Undergraduates button filter, it is observed that majority of respondents are in fact undergraduates as the ratio of visits and library preferences do not differ much from the overall statistics. Undergraduates make the majority of the daily and weekly visits to campus and the respective libraries in SMU. The frequency of accessing library resources are varied among daily, weekly, monthly visits. Also, most of the undergraduate respondents come from business and accountancy areas, this could be a reason for the greater preference in visiting LKS library rather than the KGC library. |
Overall Statistics - Postgraduates Upon selecting the Postgraduates button filter, it is observed that there is a much higher visitation rate to the campus and libraries as visitation frequencies vary between daily and weekly visitations with an average of a 13% proportion. Looking at the study areas, it is observed that the main respondents come from business and information systems, differing from the undergraduate respondent proportion. |
Overall Statistics - Faculty Upon selecting the Faculty button filter, it is observed that the visitation proportions from the campus centre between daily and weekly which seems to be more frequent compared to undergraduates and postgraduates. When comparing the frequency of library visits, the faculty group which consists of lectures and professors of various hierarchies, it is observed that do not visit the libraries as often as students as the library frequencies vary between monthly and quarterly. However, library resources are still frequented daily and weekly, similarly with undergraduates and postgraduates. |
Overall Statistics - Staff Upon selecting the Staff button filter, it is observed that they have the greatest campus visitation frequency as almost all of them visit the campus daily. As for the library visits, the proportion ranges from weekly, monthly to quarterly, similarly for the frequency of accessing library resources. Compared the previous three groups of respondents, the staff have the lowest frequency rate for SMU libraries. Looking at the area of focus, it could be inferred that the there is a large proportion of the staff that do not work specifically in a field of study. |
Insights Summary
Zooming in onto the frequency of library visits, it is clear that the libraries were more frequented by student bodies; undergraduates and postgraduates as the general visitations were either daily or monthly. On the other hand, faculty and staff were less likely to visit the libraries as the frequencies ranged between monthly to quarterly.
Generally, for all respondent groups, it is evident that library resources and services were accessed on a weekly basis. Therefore, in order to find out the correlation between physical library visits and the frequency of accessing library resources, future library surveys could include questions as to the types of channels respondents were most likely to use to access the library. Coupled with the frequency statistics collated, it could lead to a better understanding of how the libraries can better provide resources/services.
