Background

So just the other day Mitch came up to me with a pendrive and said "Superwoman, I need your help". I was obviously pretty tired from all the saving lives that I was doing in the night. He somehow he found out that I was studying in Singapore and thought I could totally do a visualisation task. I mean.. I am still a student. But No! Anyway, me being the "kind life saver" that I am, I took his pendrive. So here is the story:

Lekagul Park Reserve is a pretty cool reserve where people.. I mean humans go to see beautiful birds and camp out the night. So the reserve guys came to Mitch and told him that something is up. The rose crested blue pipit bird is getting extinct, and they believe that trucks/lorries or motor bikes are drowning their mating calls. Now of course they didn't think of applying real-time analytics and figuring that out. So here it was a pendrive full of movement data given to me to analyse.

The Data

Now let me explain the dataset to you. It's a pretty interesting data set that contains about 171,000 entries. These entries are sensor data points that are collected using RFID technology everytime these vehicles enter and exit gates, entrances, sites etc. The following tables tell you the kind of vehicles that enter and some of my thoughts about them. It also tells you the fixed locations of these sensors.

About the vehicles

Vehicle Name(used in the analysis) What it means according to Mitch What I hypothesise
Car_Mot 2 axle car or Motorcycle Park visitors
2_Truck 2 axle Truck Probably visitors too?
2_Bus 2 axle Bus Again probably visitors who just come to check the reserve out
3_Bus 3 axle Bus Probably maintenance workers?
3_Truck 3 axle Trucks Perhaps maintenance and logistics
4_Truck 4 axle(and above) Trucks pretty sure should be maintenance and logistics

About the location sensors

Location Description
Entrances All vehicles pass through an Entrance when entering or leaving the Preserve.
General-gates All vehicles may pass through these gates. These sensors provide valuable information for the Preserve Rangers trying to understand the flow of traffic through the Preserve
Gates These are gates that prevent general traffic from passing. Preserve Ranger vehicles have tags that allow them to pass through these gates to inspect or perform work on the roadway beyond
Ranger-stops These sensors represent working areas for the Rangers, so you will often see a Ranger-stop sensor at the end of a road managed by a Gate. Some Ranger-stops are in other locations however, so these sensors record all traffic passing by
Camping These sensors record visitors to the Preserve camping areas. Visitors pass by these entering and exiting a campground
