What happens in Legakul in a year?
This page tells Mitch about what essentially happens in Legakul reserve over a year. It contains visual plots of paths taken by the various vehicles and how frequently a certain location is visited. The rest of the page is divided according to vehicle types
Cars and Motorcycle
These vehicles provide the most interesting information simply because they are visitors and often not follow the rules!
- For car motors, a very popular path is to go through general gate 1,ranger stop 0, ranger stop 2, and exit through general gate 2. This is particularly visible in July when a lot of park visitors use this path
- General gate 7 is also a very popular crossing where motors converge and diverge from. Assuming that the park belongs to a country in the northern hemisphere, it can be hypothesised that visitors would prefer to stay during the day and not camp overnight during the winter months. June and July should be the summer months
- The number of visitors in in 2 axel motors dramatically increase in May, June and July. The Camping continues until September with a peak in August. This eventually ebbs in October.
- Throughout the season, Camping location 5 is the most popular location followed by camping 8, 4,3,6 ,2,7 and 0.
Park Vehicle/Rangers
- Preserve ranger or park vehicles are parked at the ranger base in the south west and hence it is the default path taken by the preserve rangers and all times. Most of the preserve rangers follow a route that involves moving through general gate1, ranger-stop 0, ranger stop-2 and general gate 2, which is the same as motor vehicles. General gate 7 is also a very crowded junction.
- Preserve rangers move quite a bit and are represented by the thick weights of the paths. Path thickness usually doesn't differ from one path to another implying that park rangers try to cover most of the paths (Mitch tell me this is true!)
- Additionally, isn't much changes in the number of visits over the year. It remains pretty constant. Hence it could be that these vehicles are involved in survellance
4 axel trucks
- My assumption of 4 axel trucks look correct. They seem to have very fixed paths and three of them are easy identifiable.
- Path 1 : entrace1-> general-gate 7 -> general-gate 4 -> general-gate 1 -> ranger-stop 2 -> general-gate 2 -> entrance 4
- Path 2 : entrace1-> general-gate 7 -> general-gate 4 -> general-gate 1 -> ranger-stop 2 -> general-gate 2 -> entrance 2
- Path 3 : general-gate 5 -> gate3 -> ranger-stop 3
- An interesting point is the disappearance of the path 3 in the month of April. It is only in this month that it disappears but comes back again later in May and remains as a path throughout the rest of the year
- In the month of september another path emerges as shown with the second circle. This is a fishy path! as the truck travels directly from entrace 3 to entrance 2! More on this later
3 Axel Bus
- The 3 Axel Bus like 4 Axel Trucks also seem to follow similar fixed patterns. There aren't many changes in their routes throughout the year except for the fact that some routes get travelled more frequently than others.
3 Axel Trucks
These trucks too are visitor trucks!
- The 3 axel Trucks have similar paths as the cars and motorcycles. Their frequency also changes with seasonal with July being the busiest time of the year. They too seem to visit camping areas
- Like motor and trucks new paths emerge in the peak period. Many of these paths do not follow designated paths hence signalling fishy issues
2 Axel Truck
- 2 axel Trucks like 3 Axel Trucks are also seasonal. They peak the during June - Sep. However unlike the cars and motor vehicles these 2 Axel trucks do not have too many "new" paths. Just one path becomes too clearly defined that invovles the popular range stop-0 and ranger stop 2 routes
2 Axel Bus
- 2 Axel Buses have a fixed route too. They seem to be park vehicles that deliver materials. Or could be visitor buses that travel in a ficed path.
